Beauty Big 3 with Kelly Killoren Bensimon

Fact: when we toured the hospital where I was supposed to deliver Harper (it turned out to be booked the day I went into labor so we high tailed it to another hospital), I really wanted to know if Bravo was a part of their cable package. I couldn’t imagine being there for 2 days without my Housewife fix. I love Watch What Happens Live, Flipping Out, Top Chef, and of course all the Real Housewives (except Miami..) franchises. Some people drink, some people smoke, I watch Bravo. So of course I’m following (most of) them on Twitter and Instagram to see snaps of their lives in real-time even when the cameras aren’t rolling. I’ve been really loving former New York Housewife, ‘I Can Make You Hot’ Author, and fashion it girl Kelly Killoren Bensimon’s pics that she posts on Instagram. It’s a fun glimpse of she and her daughters bouncing around NYC and the Hamptons along with some of her appearances and red carpet stuff sprinkled in every now and again.

Because she always looks amazingly well put together, I thought I’d reach out to her and see if she’d let me in on her favorite mascara, moisturizer, and foundation for my Beauty Big 3 series. It’s the 3 products I feel are most important and the ones I’m always curious to hear what other people are using. She was kind enough to respond with her faves and here they are:

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous

loreal

Moisturizer: La Mer, Créme de la Mer

la mer

Foundation: BB Cream from Too Faced

She also said she likes the Matriskin Cleanser, Tom Ford Eye Color Quads, Johnson’s Baby Lotion, and the Wild Bluebell Cologne from Jo Malone.

I love to hear that she wears Johnson’s Baby lotion! That smell is so powdery and light- it’s just nostalgia at its best. I’m also a fan of the Too Faced BB Cream which has a ton of coverage and a great shade range. Of course she loves Créme de la Mer because it’s amazing (her skin screams ‘there’s something expensive on me!’), and she’s a fan of drugstore mascara just like me.

Beauty Big 3: Alexis DeJoria

You might not know the name Alexis DeJoria, but you’ve have heard of her dad John Paul DeJoria and his famed hair care line Paul Mitchell. Alexis a unique mix of glamour and guts; one minute she’s walking the red carpet and the next she’s speeding around racetracks as a driver for the NHRA. She holds two world records for driving and is one of a few women to own and operate a racing team. Impressive right?

She definitely knows a thing or two about beauty, growing up around beauty insiders has left her with a lot of insight on how to get a glam look that doesn’t take all day to achieve. I was so excited when she agreed to give me her Beauty Big 3.

Foundation: Tarte ReCreate

One thing we have in common is our love for Tarte. She fancies their naturally formulated ReCreate SPF15 because It goes on smooth and has a weightless buildable coverage.

Mascara: Tarte Lights Camera Splashes

I’ve never had luck with natural mascaras, but now I might try Lights, Camera, Splashes because she swears it, “stays on through the day while I’m racing and doesn’t clump or make my lashes stick together.”

Moisturizer: Ole Henriksen Vitamin Plus

She loves Ole Henriksen’s Vitamin Plus because “It’s a light mattifying creme that soaks into my skin and doesn’t leave an oily residue. Some moisturizers I’ve used in the past felt like Elmer’s glue going on my face. Vitamin Plus doesn’t feel like that at all and it’s great for combination skin like my own. Plus they use natural ingredients.”

Beauty Big 3: Lori Taylor

If you love Smashbox like I do, you probably know Lori Taylor, their Pro Lead Makeup Artist. She’s featured in their video tutorials (like the one below) showing tips and techniques to get modern feminine looks that are easy to wear. Since she travels the world making up faces for a living, I wanted to know her go-to’s to create a professional, runway-worthy look.

Beautiful Lori doing her thing at Fashion Days Zurich 2010

Foundation:

Her hands down pick for getting skin camera-ready is Smashbox High Definition Healthy FX Foundation SPF 15 because ‘it melts into the skin for a natural finish that’s guidable but never looks heavy on.’

Mascara:

Her go-to for lashes is Bionic ‘the blackest black I’ve ever worked with and it gives length and volume to even the most challenged lashes.’

Moisturizer:

Getting skin’s moisture balance right is so important so her moisturizer pick is Murad’s Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture because ‘it leaves the skin super hydrated but never greasy and works well with primers and foundations.’

Beauty Big 3: Eve Pearl

5 time Emmy Award winning celebrity Makeup Artist (who’s also Meredith Vieira’s personal Makeup Artist for the Today Show) has a fabulous line of cosmetics customized to fit the needs of both celebs under the hot lights, and us girls looking for an easy routine with beautiful results. Here are Eve’s Beauty Big 3 that she didn’t have to go very far to find.

Beautiful Eve, she looks like she knows beauty right?

Foundation:

Pearl’s best-selling HD Dual Foundation (I use it in my kit) is of course her pick for fav foundation. She said she developed it for those with sensitive skin as not just a makeup, but as a treatment as well. It has “powerful antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, peptides, and proteins with a natural sunscreen equivalent to an SPF 20, an alternative to those who are allergic to SPF.” It’s a versatile coverage that can go from sheer to full depending on how it’s applied, and all ages can enjoy wearing it.

Mascara:

Her go-to for everyday wear is her Glamour Lash mascara. She loves it because, “it’s completely smudgeproof and tear proof.” When she’s looking to create dark lashes with tons of drama, she goes for Lancome Definicils.

Moisturizer:

I think moisturizers are usually the hardest pick because there are so many out there. Pearl agrees, but favors her own Priming Moisturizer with Astaxanthin because it’s “multifunctional and gives you all the benefits of a moisturizer, primer, sheer tint of color and sun protection… without using SPF or perfumes and chemicals. It works great for women and men.” And just what is Astaxanthin, you ask? It’s a very powerful antioxidant 500 times stronger than vitamin E.

Here is her short vid of Eve explaining how to be a part of their big upcoming promotion.

You can check out the complete line on her site HERE, where you’ll also find tons of videos on application as well as before and after photos that show the products in action.

Beauty Big 3: Bethany Karlyn

Y’all remember Bethany Karlyn right? She’s the celebrity Makeup Artist who invented PRTTY Peaushun, the lotion I love and reviewed HERE. She’s worked with the A-List women in Hollywood who are so famous, they only need first names ; Reese, Salma, Cameron, you know the drill.

I had to ask her to be a part of the Beauty Big 3 because I wanted to know what she was using to make these girls (even more) beautiful, so here are her top picks.

Here she is – gorgeous.

Foundation:

Studio Stick Foundation is the foundation she uses most on set. “I like it best applied over Prtty Peaushun which gives it a beautiful subtle luminosity. I’m also a fan of Armani luminous silk liquid foundation which I use in the same way.”

Mascara:

“My can’t-live-without mascara is Shiseido Advanced Volume in brown. I can exercise in it, swim in it, shower in it, cry in it, sleep in it, and it doesn’t budge! It comes off with any cleanser and doesn’t require a waterproof remover. I get compliments on my lashes every day, most commonly, I’m asked if I’m wearing false lashes. Essentially, it’s as close to perfect as I’ve ever found. Been using it for years.”

Moisturizer:

“My fave moisturizer is PRTTY Peaushun, of course! Gorgeous on the body, face and hair! Besides being gorgeous it also benefits the condition of the skin with a formula that is 92% natural raw ingredients. The plant extracts serve to lift, tighten, firm and help with bruising and sore muscles. The glow helps diminish the appearance of minor imperfections and creates a sexy slimmer silhouette.”

Beauty Big 3: Gina Brooke

It’s been absolute bliss asking celebs and their Makeup Artists about their Beauty Big 3 because they’re the ones on the front lines of fashion. It’s the ultimate testing ground.

Gina Brooke is a world-renound Makeup Artist who has made up A-List celebs like the Beckhams, Gisele Bundchen, Justin Timberlake, Naomi Campbel, and collaborated closely with Madonna throughout the years to develop custom lashes and looks for 3 globe-spanning tours.

So what are her Beauty Big 3?

Brooke at work

Foundation:

Illusion Tinted Moisturizer from Hourglass Cosmetics which lifts and hydrates skin using their very own INSTALIFT and Hyaluronic Filling Spheres. It’s light in weight and gives a natural, radiant glow.

Mascara:

Gina loves the yet-to-be-released Film Noir Mascara from Hourglass for good reason,  she helped to create it. She has been using lab samples on her star clients and all during Fashion Week for the Fall 2010 shows with dream results. Who better to develop a mascara than the woman who has probably used buckets of the stuff from every line out there over the years? Look for it in August at Sephora and Barneys.

Moisturizer:

Her go-to for giving the skin a healthy dose of moisture, which we all know makes for the best looking skin is Moisture Binding Cream by Intraceuticals. Its vitamins, green tea, essential oils, and hyaluronic goodness will give the face a plump, smooth look so makeup glides effortlessly on.
