Perfect Gifts, Yummy Scents, Chic Packaging; The New Crabtree & Evelyn Has Arrived

Crabtree & Evelyn has new lines, new scents, and a feminine-chic aesthetic that looks as decadent as it feels on the skin. I’m still carefully using their now retired Skin Polishing Ritual, a unique scrub that could easily pass for a $200 body treatment in a high-end spa, it’s magic. I was really excited to see their new, spirited, eye-catching lines with a youthful spin on some classic scents.

I’ve been keeping their Citron Honey & Coriander Body Scrub right next to my kitchen hand soap. It’s where I wash my hands the most so after cooking a meal they look about 10 years older than they should. Hand exfoliation is key in keeping them youthful looking, and this pretty reminder keeps my mitts ultra soft and smelling like heaven with a carefully crafted just-right citron scent isn’t too sweet or lemony.

I’m a lover of rose, but particular about the scent itself. I like it to be authentic and light without a manufactured fake smell that’s all too common. I’ve been placing a few drops of their Rosewater Home Fragrance Oil into a warmer then I open up a few windows, and let a nice breeze in. It’s an airy, delicate scent that can freshen up the house with only a few drops.

I’m saving the best for last you know. This Lily Eu De Toilette is absolutely incredible. I’m not even a big fan of lily in general, but this body spray is exactly what I was looking for at Jo Malone a few weeks back, but never found. It’s a light floral that’s easy to wear solo or layer with the fragrances I have. It also has a wear time that rivals my pure perfumes so the scent is fresh all day long.

Best Natural Bronzer/ Skin Enhancer: Melvita Carrot Oil

Wouldn’t you just know it, I happened upon one of only 3 Melvita stores in the entire country. It’s located dangerously close at Newport Beach’s Fashion Island and it drew me in last week with its clean, organic chic aesthetic. I picked up a few things including 2 of their signature oils, this Carrot Oil being one of them. More to come on the line a little later.

For now I think I found the holy grail as far as toning up your skin in a natural way (natural in ingredients and appearance alike). Its naturally orangey color looks like it would stain the skin with some crazy bright hue, but that’s not the case at all. Smoothing this quick absorbing oil onto the skin gives it a naturally bronzy radiant look with light hydration that doesn’t feel greasy or heavy.

Check it-

Don’t worry, it doesn’t look this orange once it’s on.
I used a small amount for just a touch of color. Looks scary at first right?
A weird angle of my arms, but a clear look at how the color looks on the left arm.

I’ve also experimented using it on my cheek bones over makeup and it gives a little extra glow and radiance without any shimmer. For light bronzing, it’s perfect so it’s odd that is isn’t something you typically hear about. Give it a whirl, I bet you’ll love it too.

Relief for Dry, Calloused Feet; Glytone Ultra Heel and Elbow Cream

First, let me apologize for making you look at man feet. Marathon running man feet at that. It’s my game-for-anything hubby’s feet that I recently rubbed some of Glytone’s Ultra Heel and Elbow Cream on to see if it could make a dent in the callouses that he builds up by pounding miles of pavement.

I rubbed this rich, almost 30% Glycolic Acid based cream onto his right foot and left it on for 15 minutes before washing it off. It’s not a stay-on cream, it’s a treatment.

Sorry about the close up, but it does show how well it softened his dry, rough skin. It looks so much better (?), less dry and cracked. Click to enlarge if you dare…

Your feet can not be this bad, but if they are this cream will help soften up rough callouses in minutes without scraping and scrubbing. It’s pretty amazing stuff that I’ll use every so often for my at-home pedicures.

TSA Approved Beauty Essentials

Happy New Year!

They say some 35% of people intend on traveling from now until the end of February to catch some post-holiday sun and relaxation. If you’re lucky enough to get away this winter, here are a few TSA-friendly finds that will hopefully make packing the least stressful part of your trip.

Evolution of Smooth, or eos as it’s known, is the most fun you’ll ever have using a lip balm. It’s a 95% certified organic paraben free formula with an application like no other. It’s a dome of balm that I twist onto my puckered lips and wiggle back and forth a bit until I can feel it’s worked in. Their twist apart design ensures that you don’t have to come close to touching anything inside (yuk airport germs), and since the entire balm is exposed it’s a snap to sanitize.

I’ve been carrying around a space-saving (about 2 inches in diameter) shea butter based Coola Hand Lotion Bar in my bag recently. Solid lotion bars are so concentrated that just a few swipes will do, without a hint of greasiness left behind.

I’ve had to check a bag because of my skin care, you might be able to relate? Murad has the cutest travel sized skin care in their new Sun Undone kit. You’ll get a Cleanser, Active Radiance Serum, SPF 30 Moisturizer, and Spot Lightening Gel with Vitamin C and Hydraquinone to lighten and brighten sun spotting and acne scaring so you can treat and repair your skin on the road.

It makes no sense to take along your regular sized shampoo and conditioner, but buying a small Pert Plus at the drugstore isn’t all that appealing either. Caviar by Alterna is one of the most popular hair collections of all time, known as the first anti-aging hair care. This Caviar travel kit is a popular pick complete with the iconic shampoo and conditioner, a mini hairspray and their new Overnight Rescue Treatment to renew and de-stress overworked hair while you sleep.

Airports = germs. I am obsessed with the new Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Cream from Clean. It’s an instant hand sanitizer disguised as a hand cream with 4 hours of germ defense. It leaves skin feeling neutral, not overly moisturized with no scent whatsoever.

Body Hydrators for Every Need

It’s a post-shower tradition most women never neglect, slathering on your favorite body hydrator to keep skin and especially those freshly shaved legs soft. Beyond the Jergens you’ve used for 20 years, there are some great choices out there made especially for your specific needs.

For Babies, Kids, and Sensitive Skin:

THe Healthy Baby Lotion from Lavanila looks, feels, and smells like a run-of-the-mill body lotion, but it’s not. It’s formulated without Parabens, sufates, mineral oil, and synthetics so you can use it on newborn or your own sensitive, post-shaved skin to get some great moisture without the red bumpy reaction.

For the Year-Round Sunscreen Diva:

Even in the winter here in Denver, I’m catching rays. My desk is positioned in front of a big window so when I sit and write everyday I can feel the sun, this sun accumulation adds up to eventually cause damage. Don’t put away the sunscreen just because it’s chilly outside, I use an SPF 30 year round. Erno Laszlo’s Total Face & Body Protection SPF 30 uses shea butter and green tea to produce a cream that’s so light and elegant, you forget it’s also a sunscreen.

For Bronzy Hydration:

Because I’m so depressingly pale, I like a little glow even in the wintertime. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunless Tanning cream treats your dry skin to a healthy dose of moisture, streak-free color, and a light yummy scent that reminds me of the beach.

For a Sure Thing:

Everyone loves the line Yu•Be, it’s been the best selling formula in Japan for years and it’s now catching on over here thanks to Sephora (finally) carrying the line. Their Moisturizing Body Lotion is a cult favorite for a reason. It packs a powerful hydrating punch in a light weight lotion. No heavy fragrance, no greasy feel, no fancy packaging. Just a long-lasting, super hydrator that is said to help with eczema, psoriasis, and those little bumps on the backs of arms.

Desert Essence; All Purpose Cleanser and Treatment Concealer

I love when lines get a little facelift. Desert Essence recently underwent a packaging upgrade which I think matches its modern natural feel. I’ve used their Organic Jojoba Oil in place of body lotion for years, I bought it last it looked like this.

Old school

Shiny new

Maybe they changed the packaging to highlight their USDA Organic seal? Regardless, I’m so happy for this line because their powerful collection of cost-effective organic skin and body care is worth checking out.

Anyone looking for a great daily cleanser to wash without stripping you have to try their Thoroughly Clean Face Wash, a castile soap infused with Lavender, Tea Tree, Goldenseal and a few other skin calming ingredients. It creates a light foam on the skin that very gently washes away everything, even eye makeup. I’ve never heard of the fragrant Awapuhi plant from Hawaii, but I’m obsessed with the lovely, slightly sweet scent it gives the wash.

Tea Tree Oil meets mineral pigments in their Blemish Touch Stick Concealer. I love the idea of treating blemishes as you cover them because some makeup can clog pores and make the inflammation even worse. It blends, it covers, it heals, and it’s only $10.

You can find Desert Essence at most natural food stores (like Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage) and online HERE. They’ve also added a listing of their gluten free skin and body care found HERE.
