Get Jennifer Aniston’s White Sneakers

I saw this pic of Jennifer Aniston recently and knew I had to have whatever shoes she was wearing. It’s such a cute look and very ‘her’ just a notch above casual, which is also as it turns out, very ‘me’ as well.

Luckily FabSugar.com had her whole outfit deconstructed so I found out her shoes were by a line I’d never heard of called Superga. I ordered the white ones from Zappos.com but had to hold myself back from ordering them in every fun shade they offered. Their color selection is so fun.

I’ll wear them as she did, with cuffed jeans and other cropped summer pants. They’re neater than flip flops and add more style than Converse. I’m so excited they were only $65!

Jessica Alba and the Case for Wearing Corsets

If this woman can have the world’s smallest waist by wearing a corset for the last 15 years, then Jessica Alba’s recent confession about getting her waistline back in order after kids by wearing a corset seems likely.

20130430-050739.jpg

Alba told Net-A-Porter mag, “After birth I wore a double corset for three months. It was sweaty but worth it.”

I had a similar experience after the birth of my daughter when I wore a hospital issued binder to keep my cesarian incision compressed and comfortable. I instinctively wore it round the clock for months just for relief but my stomach did get back to its normal state fairly quickly. (Of course Tracy Anderson’s post-baby workout helped too, but I waited 6 weeks to heal before doing any exercise.)

Hourglass Angel has corsets and waist sinchers especially for this sort of thing. Next time around I think I’ll grab something like this that’s made especially for waist slimming which might offer better support for my incision as well.

What is Cupping?

While this Jennifer Aniston pic circulates, so does talk of cupping and what it’s all about. The pic below her is of me several years ago when I first tried cupping treatments that would often supplement my Accupuncture. It’s used to treat pain, better circulation, and to just keep the general flow of energy in the body moving. My treatments were for my lower back which was trashed from hunching over too much while doing makeup.

A flame is quickly lit into the glass cup before the cup is put on your skin to create the suction. Your skin rises inside the cup as it reacts to the suction which doesn’t hurt at all. It’s this suction that improves the blood flow and energy as the cups stay on the skin for 10ish minutes. Check out this short vid which shows in more detail what it’s all about.

Cupping isn’t too pricey either, I remember it was around $20 added on to the price of Accupuncture, so on its own I can’t imagine it world be too much more.

My facialist does facial cupping (see here) to increase the circulation in the skin. It’s less intense (no fire!) than traditional cupping but you can often see rosier, healthy skin right after you’re finished. (Click here for a facial cupping vid.)

Cupping has been around since 3000 BC so it’s not something new. Find out more about cupping and its many uses here to see if it’s something that might help you.

Keeping it Real at the 2013 Oscars

Standing out tonight against all the weaves and wigs (there’s more fake hair on that red carpet than the real stuff, let’s face it) were 3 beauties at the 2013 Oscars. Charlize Theron, Robin Roberts, and Anne Hathaway all looked so beautiful and classic without the long locks getting in the way. To you and I this doesn’t seem particularly noteworthy or special, but in Hollywood where everyone is painted, polished, and primped to perfection- all abiding by the same beauty rules, this is truly an act of bravery. Maybe in some small way it sends a message that unconventional is beautiful too and we can start to see more images of women that don’t all look the same.

And a shout out to Anniston for keeping it real rocking her signature hair style (which was by Chris McMillan who used Living Proof haircare btw.) Up-dos don’t work for me either, I always feel like I’m wearing a costume or something. Brides always tell me how they prefer their hair down but feel they should have it up for their weddings and this is the perfect example of how you don’t have to conform to a style you don’t like.  Stick to what makes you feel good, you’ll feel more comfortable and look happier (and better!) in your pictures.

Katy Perry and Rihanna at the 2013 Grammy’s

Of all the looks from last night’s Grammy Awards, two stood out above all others: Katy Perry and Rihanna.

Both are known to rock makeup that’s always on point, so if you’re looking for the latest trends in color- their faces will show you the way. Smokey shadow in dark shades have been replaced by shimering nudes and neutrals. Gone are the days where a dark shadow is applied from lash line up to the crease to create drama, it’s all about a lighter mix of shadows accented with black liner on the top and bottom lash line. Long lashes are always on-trend (they used full strip false lashes) but if that isn’t your thing just alternate curling with 4 or so coats of mascara waiting for each coat to dry in between. You’ll still get a longer, flirty effect that’s more dramatic than a day look.

Used on Katy Perry:

Rimmel London: ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in black, Glam’Eyes Eyeshadow Trio in “Orion,” with ScandalEyes Shadow Stick in “Bulletproof Beige” on her browbone. For her skin she mixed 1/3 Rimmel London BB Cream in Light with 2/3 Match Perfection Foundation in Nude and Lasting Finish Soft Colour Mono Blush in “Pink Rose” for her cheeks. Her nude lip look was 1000 Kisses Lipliner in Natural with their “Crush” lipstick on top.

Beyoncé at the Inauguration

Beyoncé looked so great at the inauguration didn’t she? She’s actually a really good friend of mine, but she doesn’t know that because we’ve never met. But those are just details. The equally lovely Mally, her Makeup Artist and the creator of a popular makeup line was the one who created her look for the big day. She was kind enough to spill the secrets on how to get Bey’s look which I’ve detailed below straight from her.

Mally and Beyonce

· To first set the skin, apply my Perfect Prep Poreless Primer all over the face and my Cancellation Concealer directly underneath the eyes.

· To achieve natural-looking coverage, first, apply my Ultimate Performance Liquid Foundation. Next, add a sweep of my NEW Diamond Unpowder that will illuminate the skin followed by brushing on my Effortless Airbrush Highlighter and Blush Duo to the cheeks in order to provide a soft, radiant glow to the skin.

· To achieve a rich, smokey eye – try my Evercolor Shadow Stick in Saddle Shimmer. Apply this all over the eyelid and underneath as well. Next, select a few shades from the Mally Beauty In the Buff Palette and sweep that onto the eyelids. Finish the look by applying a small amount of my Age Rebel Shadow Stick in Chocolate Diamond on the bottom lid right under your eyelashes to open up the eye followed by using my Lightwand Eyebrightener to the inner corners to instantly brighten this area. Lastly, to achieve this bold eyeliner at-home, try using the Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Eyeliner in Midnight, layered with the Ultimate Performance Ink Eyeliner (which is exclusive to QVC.com).

· Compliment this confident eye by pairing it with a mascara that will enhance the overall look – such as the Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara and/or my NEW Instant Impact Mascara. To create glossy, Beyoncé worthy lips try my High Shine Lip Gloss in Mally’s Look or Mally’s Baby.

· And last but not least, before you leave the house, apply the Mally Beauty Face Defender to lock your makeup in place and Perfect Prep Hydrating Under Eye Brightener to make the eyes pop!
