Best Eye Shadow Palettes

Palettes used to be where cosmetic companies would discard their least popular shades in hopes of making them more desirable among a tapestry of colors. Eye shadow palettes today are big business whether you choose the colors to customize your own, or it comes complete with complementary shades, palettes seem to be springing up everywhere so let’s look at a few that I feel give you the most bang for your buck.

Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow compacts have always been a favorite among the serious eye shadow connoisseur. These palettes have quickly become the focus of the shadow line for Dior because they wear well, come is beautiful shades, and have a silky smooth finish. (Pictured; Golds 569)

I remember a time when mineral lines weren’t thought to have the vast shade selections or staying power to hang with the cool kids of color. Jane Iredale proves that theory wrong with her Triple Eye Shadows. This delightfully smaller sized compact houses color combinations we can all use while remaining crease free in all weather. Everything Cle De Peau is my latest obsession and their Eye Color Quads are no exception. These ultra luxurious shadows range in shade from shimmering jewel tones to matte neutrals and contain beneficial ingredients that soothe, moisturize and treat your lids with anti aging properties while remaining 100% crease free. DiorSkin Pressed Powder

For us girls who need just a little more coverage or those who favor the matte look to a dewy one, DiorSkin’s Pressed Powder is perfect. It’s a really fine pressed powder that glides on the skin covering any imperfections your foundation might have missed, and photographs really well. I prefer using it with a big fluffy brush for lighter coverage and then using a concealer brush to swipe it right below the lower lash line to prevent mascara from running down. The shades only come in light, medium and dark and I use the medium so if you have darker olive skin or anything beyond that, you unfortunately won’t find a shade that suits you.

Best Mascaras

Here are a few great mascaras to accent every pair of batting lashes.

Dior’s Diorshow is tops for high end luxe lashes. At $23 a tube, it’s the highest priced mascara on my list but well worth the splurge. You can expect no clumping and no transferring onto your under eye area- perfect for those who just wear mascara and no shadow since it’s your main focus.

I’ve received plenty of crazy looks when I whip out Cover Girl’s LashExact but this little purple tube is the real deal. It was the first drugstore brand I’ve ever loved- and I tried them all. It’s great for those who tend to clump or those who like a full lash and use more than one coat. The waterproof formula really shines, I use it on every weepy bride I see.

Tried it all and still haven’t fallen in love? Paula Dorf’s Cake Mascara might be a winner. Just dampen the included fan brush and swirl it on the cake making the right consistency, sweep the brush over your lashes root to tip and poof! Perfect, shiny, natural looking lashes. I like that you can experiment with consistency and that you can really reach the lash root making your lashes look fuller and longer.
