Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre 24 Hour Miracle Cream

Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre 24 Hour Miracle Cream is nothing short of a cult favorite among Makeup Artists and celebs alike. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out.

Lait-Crème Concentrè

I first saw it in action backstage at Fashion Week at every show – see the squished up tube behind the Rosewater spray (which I also went out and bought shortly after.)

And here again, next to Eve Pearl, one of my favorite foundations at a different show. Every artist it seemed was carrying it.

Even Gwyneth Paltrow gave it some Goop love a few years back touting its big time Makeup Artist following. But why is it a staple in most pro’s kits? Because I’ve yet to find a skin type it doesn’t work on. Oily, acne-prone, dry, and even clients with skin so sensitive they bring their own moisturizer because they’re afraid that whatever I’m using might trigger a reaction. But it never has. On the contrary- it calms, softens, and evens out the skin in a subtle but complete way. I’ve been using fewer silicone-based primers these days because this primes the skin so well that I don’t need the added step. At Fashion Week, I also saw it used as a makeup remover for the girls who came in full makeup from other shows. Without sinks and water, the artists were able to get the girl’s faces totally clean using this cream and tissues alone.

A 1oz tube is just $16, but I get the larger 2.6oz since it’s only $28. Yup, it’s a French drugstore line so not only is it free of nasty chemicals (Europe bans most of the ones we still use here), but it’s also cheap!

Backstage with Nars at New York Fashion Week Spring 2012

Nars created so many looks for so many shows that I couldn’t post them all, but I’ve collected my favorite ones to check out along with what was used and where to find it.

Show: Honor

Lead Artist: James Boehmer

Look: The look is reminiscent of Penelope Tree, and Catherine Deneuve. The eyelashes are messy and drawn on, with a lot of mascara. Everything else is perfect – the skin is porcelain, and the lip color is like lips that have been bitten. The key to the look is really the lashes. When you think you’ve got enough mascara, add two more coats. – Boehmer

Face: Tinted Moisturizers – new for Spring 2012!

Loose Powder

Eyes: Santa Monica Boulevard Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil

Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara

Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara

Cheeks: Douceur Blush

Lips: Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick – new for spring 2012! (for now, try Terre de Feu Pure Matte Lipstick)

Some serious mascara action combined with drawn on lashes.

Show: Thakoon

Lead Artist: Diane Kendal

Look: “Because the collection is so colorful, I wanted to focus on a classic, strong brow. I kept the face natural, with a little pink on the cheek for healthy color. On the eyes, I focused on contouring to show strength and attitude, a cowboy attitude that is,” – Kendal.

Face: Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer – launching Spring 2012! For a similar affect try a light application of Sheer Glow Foundation

Cheeks: Zen Blush

Gaiety Blush – new for Spring 2012! For a similar affect try Desire Blush

Eyes: Bengali Eyeshadow

Portobello Duo Eyeshadow

Laguna Bronzer

Bali Eyeshadow

Blondie Eyeshadow

Snow Loose Powder

Lips: Belle de Jour Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Nais: Versailles Nail Polish

I met Diane backstage at this very show when I covered NYFW and she was so cool. This was not the case for other artists as I quickly discovered.

These models walk in several fashion shows all day long during Fashion Week. I bet her hairstylist for her show after this one was pissed.

Show: Creatures of the Wind

Lead Artist: James Boehmer

Look: We didn’t want to see the makeup before seeing the clothes but still wanted a strong look,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “It’s very chalky and very 90’s. To balance the chalkiness in the eyes, we gave a luminosity to the cheekbones. – Boehmer

Face: Tinted Moisturizers

Loose Powder

Eyes: Santa Monica Boulevard Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil

Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

Douceur Blush

Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara

Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara

Lips: Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick – new for spring 2012.

Just a few flashes of color so it isn’t over the top.

Another angle. This one is my fav.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 with Hourglass Cosmetics and Imitation of Christ

Makeup Artist extraordinaire, Artistic Director for Hourglass Cosmetics, and gracious interviewee for my Beauty Big 3 column Gina Brooke created the beauty look for the Imitation of Christ spring 2012 show. Looking more like a wedding and less like the typical runway show, the models gathered around the wedding party complete with faux bride (heiress Lydia Herst) and groom. Brooke wanted a look that was timeless, classic, and clean to flatter without overpowering the soft romance of a (faux) wedding.

The face chart, click to enlarge.

Skin: Primer followed by Illusion Tinted Moisturizer or in some cases Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation applied with No. 2 Foundation Brush

Hidden Corrective Concealer on blemishes or discolorations

Eyes: Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Lagoon (blue), Dune (gold) or Prism (silver) on the lid blended with fingers

Script Precision Liner to enhance the lash line

Film Noir Mascara to define, finished with a glossy topcoat of Film Noir Lash Lacquer (You can check out the scoop on Lash Lacquer HERE, it’s a glossy top coat for the lashes that I suddenly need to buy)

Cheeks: Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush to the apples of the cheeks blended with the fingers

Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light for a cheek highlight

Lips: Aura Sheer Lip Stain in Flush

The team from Skyn ICELAND prepped the models skin before the show.

Here’s Brooke, hard at work. Is that a light thingy she’s wearing? She looks like a hot coal miner, I want one.

My skin is this perfect too. I just add splotches and wrinkles to my face in photos because I don’t want less perfect people to feel weird.

Do you fake take this woman to be your bride? It’s a real priest in case you’re wondering (really), it was a Thursday so he was free. I wonder if he was wearing makeup too and if that was his robe? I also wonder how they found a somewhat good-looking priest under the age of 80. (I’m Catholic so I know this is a rare find).

How these two made ankle-height panty hose like socks chic I’ll never know.

There are two beards in this photo. Kidding! I don’t actually know that dude at all.

Just (not) Married!

Backstage at New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 with Estée Lauder and The Row

My heart feels a little sad when my inbox becomes flooded during Fashion Week with backstage reports. I made the decision not to cover NYFW this time because I just couldn’t make it work (I’m aiming for the fall shows this February though), so with a twinge of jealousy and that feeling like a little kid who missed out on her friend’s super fun birthday party, I’ll bring you the beautiful photos of the hottest makeup trends from the shows I hated missing starting with The Row.

If there was any doubt that Lauder is hotter than ever, Tom Pecheux and his EL team acted as glam squad for the A-List loving line The Row, designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Here’s the full scoop on the look and a rundown on what was used including a their cool trick of using mascara as liner.

Eyes: NEW dual-ended mascara in black/brown tested backstage- launching March 2012

-used with an eyeliner brush for liner in between lashes  (this is a really good idea similar to tight lining but using mascara so you can connect the lash at the base to make it look more lush- Carissa)

-used with the mascara wand for lashes

*Blondes: Top and bottom lashes- brown; liner- brown

*Brunettes: Top lashes- black; bottom lashes and liner- brown

Eyebrows: Sumptuous Extreme Bold Volume Mascara in Black and Brown

Lips: Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Beige

Cheeks: NEW limited edition Gelée Bronzer tested backstage- launching January 2012

Skin: Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator

DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme SPF 15

Foundation: NEW formula tested backstage- launching March 2012

Powder: Lucidity Loose Powder

Who knew a fashion show with wigs could be so much fun? Charlie Le Mindu rocked it out on the runway giving an otherwise dull category his signature touch.

I’m wearing this one right now.

Not into wearing a gas mask infused wig? Doesn’t matter because that isn’t the point, the point is to get our attention and put him on our radar. Mission accomplished.
