Fashion Week Fall 2011: Backstage With Napoleon Perdis at What Goes Around Comes Around

I’m a big fan of Napoleon Perdis, the ledgendary Makeup Artist with 2 blockbuster  lines – (his signature and its little sister found in Target stores) that offer high-pigment, good quality makeup that’s fun to use. He and his team were on hand for Fashion Week at the Soho Grand to whip up some beautiful looks for the Fall 11 What Goes Around Comes Around collection.

Perids starting on the model’s look

All done, look at those eyes pop.

With Kelly Cutrone (love) and the model with her finished look.

Final look.

On the runway.

With another model.

Finishing up a more dramatic look.

Love the look of a dramatic lower lash.

Workin it.

The one and only Johnny Weir.

With the designers Timo Welland and Alan Eckstein.

If you’re in the L.A area, you can check out his Make Up Academy HERE, they offer classes to all levels to sharpen your skills as a pro or consumer.

Fashion Week Fall 2011: Backstage With Wella at Peter Som

Wella called the hair they created for Peter Som’s runway show ‘quirky housewife,’ an undone pouf with an edge to it that’s a little (dare I say?) Snooki inspired.. With makeup a little on the understated side, the hair partnered with the clothing for a bold, youthful statement that was fun and eye-catching.

There’s something about this hair that I really like, I think it’s the shape.
Notice how harsh the makeup looks on her cheeks, almost silver.
Under the lights the silver makeup looks like a luminous metallic, much less severe than it did before, and the different hair lenghts mirror the layered effect of the piece. It all comes together!

What Was Used:

- Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz

- Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix 45 Second Crafting Spray

Fashion Week Fall 2011: Aveda Backstage at Rodarte, Jason Wu & Christian Siriano

I forewent covering the shows in lieu of this CA vaca with my hubby. A fine trade off, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a little bummed when I get daily backstage reports when I should be covering the shows myself.

I digress, and move on.

Aveda’s hair pros have been busy creating looks for all the hot shows like Jason Wu, Christian Siriano, and Sophie Theallet just to name a few. I’m loving the loose, off-center braid look below shown at Rodarte.

If you’re getting married soon, have a special event to attend, or just want some fresh ideas on how to style your hair, check out Aveda’s Fashion Week photostream on Flickr HERE for beautiful looks and how they were achieved.

Gucci Westman: Jennifer Aniston’s Makeup Artist for her Allure Cover Shoot

I was just checking out some behind-the-scene pics from Jennifer Anison’s Allure cover shoot and I saw my favorite Makeup Artist, Gucci Westman touching up Jen’s neutral pout.

On set at the Allure shoot with Jen.
And here she is in a photo I took backstage at NY Fashion Week at the BCBG Max Azria show where she was the lead artist.

We were chatting about her then new role with Revlon while she was working on this probably 16 year old model.

Her kit, lots of Revlon since she’s the brand’s Global Artistic Director.

2 things I noticed about Westman; she had an incredibly calm presence while in the midst total chaos, and she had the most perfect, glowing skin I’d ever seen. It was such a thrill to meet her.

Backstage with Esteé Lauder at Derek Lam SS 2011; New York Fashion Week

Esteé Lauder returned to New York’s Fashion Week to team up with Derek Lam, thanks in part to their Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux who has brought the line’s  makeup collection back to life. He created a beautiful look for Lam’s spring collection – wearable with a twist but not over the top. Here are my favorite pics from the show.
