Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream

I feel like a BB Cream expert at this point having tried about a dozen of them in the past year since I went in search of a good one for my skin. Aveeno’s Clear Complexion BB Cream tops the other drugstore offerings I’ve tried by far. Its coverage is light to medium and the finish is natural with a nice luminous glow so your skin looks really awake and healthy. It’s a good grab and go formula for those who want something light, an everyday makeup for the casual girl. A big plus is its SPF 30, saving you that extra step in your sun protection too.

What’s In My Kit? My Favorite Professional Foundations

20130401-193649.jpg

I carry several different types of foundations in my kit, but these are my tried and true little soldiers that never ever let me down. They’re all professional brands meant for photography so any skin challenge is easily disguised. When I use a powder, Dermablend’s Mineral Powder is what I often use to set because it gives additional coverage (and can be used daily on its own) but dissolves into the skin without sitting on top. Koh Gen Do’s Maifanshi was a pleasant surprise I discovered years back. It’s the best non-cream I have with a ton a great coverage and some moisture that doesn’t drag over dry skin (a common problem here in Colorado.) When someone is really dry or has mature skin, I grab my Eve Pearl Dual compact because it’s the most moisturizing of the bunch and leaves behind a pretty glow that makes otherwise sallow skin look alive. When I’m on TV or have an event where I’ll be photographed, I even use Kett’s Fixx Créme which is probably my most used of the bunch. It glides on but doesn’t drag and it looks so completely natural that skin looks just as perfect in person as it does on camera. The fact that it’s waterproof is just icing on the cake.

Makeup Before and After: Coverage and Color From tarte

Before...

Of all the BB Creams I’ve tried so far, tarte’s is the only one I’d be able to actually use in my kit. Most BB’s are skin-enhancing, so they give some coverage but not nearly enough to get skin looking great for a long day and tons of photographs. Kelly, is the bride below whose trial run for her upcoming wedding I photographed for a before and after. I used tarte’s latest foundation on her and we were both thrilled with the results. Her skin looked so great that very little concealer was needed and it looked invisible both in person and on camera.

On her cheeks I used tarte’s airblush maracuja blush, which is my new go-to for an easy flush, and then their LipSurgence lip luster on her lips for a finished look that isn’t thick or heavy.

... And After

… And After! There was a slight change in the natural lighting, but the photo isn’t re-touched at all.

This Week in Pictures and MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Powder Foundation

20130123-200205.jpg

My week in a nutshell:

20130123-200205.jpg
Mike gave me flowers for no reason.

20130123-200214.jpg

Lance said a bunch of unsurprising things to Oprah.

20130123-200318.jpg

The baby made wee little stand-ups with some help from daddy.

20130123-200657.jpg

I captured just the perfect pic of Harper mid breakfast. She sure loves her meal times.

20130123-200703.jpg
And I got my hair done. Very important stuff when you don’t go as often as you should/ did.

20130123-201321.jpg
We took just the sweetest pic of Harper at the aquarium in an old diving suit. I swear she poses for pictures now.

And I found a power foundation that trumps all.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation was a pleasant surprise. It’s what mineral makeup and MAC Studio Fix want to be but fall short. It’s perfect coverage without a chalky finish – a powder that thinks like a cream. For me, it has been the easiest, quickest way to get perfect looking skin with the sweep of a brush (you can also use it wet with the included sponge.) It’s so good, I can’t wait to order a palette for my kit to finish faces. It has replaced a years-long run I had using Jane Iredale’s mineral powder foundation. Pro Finish disappears into my skin making it look so much better using just a little bit. I had a laser treatment today that left my skin scorching red after, but Pro Finish easily disguised the redness so well and without any irritation at all. If you’re looking for quick, complete coverage check it out next time you’re at Sephora and let me know what you think!

Kryolan Dermacolor for Serious Coverage

20130107-112246.jpg

For a real-deal full coverage makeup, you have to browse the professional brands. If you need tattoo coverage for a wedding or if you have a scar, veins, or birthmarks that you can’t seem to disguise, Kryolan will do the trick. Their Dermacolor is one of the few out there that’s carried in Makeup Artist’s kits because it’s known to cover anything and everything with the added benefit of being smudge and waterproof.

Dab on this ultra thick cover in small amounts at a time and blend completely using a sponge until what you want covered is gone. Take your time because with this formula it’s easier to add more than to try to take color away.

Jouer Matte Moisture Tint

Jouer is really an every-woman sort of line with genus ‘snap together’ packaging and colors for grown ups that flatter and work together in an effortless way. I wasn’t surprised that I really liked their new Matte Moisture Tint foundation, I liked it so well that it went straight into my personal kit. It’s something I’ll wear regularly and buy again once I’m out.

It’s an oil-free, mineral rich formula with big coverage that blended so completely into my skin that it was undetectable. It disguised red blotches and even darkness around my eyes so well that I didn’t need to use any concealer for my skin to look all glowy and perfect. All skin types can enjoy it because in this case oil-free doesn’t mean drying and it looked as perfect at the end of the day as when I first put it on without needing to set it with powder or any touch ups.

Find Jouer online HERE, or in select Nordstrom stores where we’ll hopefully be seeing more of them. soon
