Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre 24 Hour Miracle Cream

Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre 24 Hour Miracle Cream is nothing short of a cult favorite among Makeup Artists and celebs alike. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out.

Lait-Crème Concentrè

I first saw it in action backstage at Fashion Week at every show – see the squished up tube behind the Rosewater spray (which I also went out and bought shortly after.)

And here again, next to Eve Pearl, one of my favorite foundations at a different show. Every artist it seemed was carrying it.

Even Gwyneth Paltrow gave it some Goop love a few years back touting its big time Makeup Artist following. But why is it a staple in most pro’s kits? Because I’ve yet to find a skin type it doesn’t work on. Oily, acne-prone, dry, and even clients with skin so sensitive they bring their own moisturizer because they’re afraid that whatever I’m using might trigger a reaction. But it never has. On the contrary- it calms, softens, and evens out the skin in a subtle but complete way. I’ve been using fewer silicone-based primers these days because this primes the skin so well that I don’t need the added step. At Fashion Week, I also saw it used as a makeup remover for the girls who came in full makeup from other shows. Without sinks and water, the artists were able to get the girl’s faces totally clean using this cream and tissues alone.

A 1oz tube is just $16, but I get the larger 2.6oz since it’s only $28. Yup, it’s a French drugstore line so not only is it free of nasty chemicals (Europe bans most of the ones we still use here), but it’s also cheap!

The Denver Wedding of RG3 and Rebecca Liddicoat

Sometimes I get to work with people in the spotlight. Call them famous, or known, or high profile- but I just call them clients. Of course days like these are fun and exciting, lifting the veil for a moment to get a peek of a different world. But as a Makeup Artist for weddings, it’s most rewarding to see genuine love and appreciation for family which is what I experienced over the weekend working with Rebecca Liddicoat, the now-wife of Robert Griffin III a.k.a RG3- Heisman Trophy winner and superstar quarterback for the Washington Redskins.

In the few times I met her, I found Rebecca to be sweet, unguarded, funny, and so laid back. She doesn’t have a high maintenance bone in her body and she and her family are easily one of the nicest families I’ve worked with in the 16 years I’ve been doing this. It makes stories like THIS totally understandable. Her sister Lindsey was awesome, for months she coordinated and planned many of the details of the wedding, which was beautiful without being over-the-top. Everything was just very normal- aside from the guest list of course. THIS writeup in The Washington Post quoting gests as saying how beautiful the event was, and how RG3 encouraged everyone to get up and introduce themselves to someone they didn’t know because everyone in the room was family now pretty much sums it up. From what I experienced, these are two really genuine people who were raised with strong family values. It’s a good pairing and I wish them all the best.

Now, ready for the makeup talk?

NARS Shadows In My Kit

I’ve been totally revamping my kit this season – purging what’s old and bringing in some fresh colors and all the best formulas that I know perform like crazy. I was lacking a few basics (I’m ditching the Naked palette- loved the colors but I’m having a hard time getting the intensity I need) so I looked to NARS to fill in those gaps. This is the first time I’ve bought NARS shadows even though I know their pigment is legendary. After swatching too many colors in Sephora, I landed on Lola Lola (a medium copper brown with shimmer), Brousse Duo (perfect neutral plums), and Cairo (a not quite plum and not quite beige shade that I know I’ll use a ton.)

They’re so soft and blend in beautifully, I can’t wait to put them to use.

Ben Nye Lumiere Grand Colour Eye Shadows

ben nye

Typically, when you hear ‘clown makeup’ it’s an insult, but not at Ben Nye where they actually have a line of makeup specifically for clowns. For the past 40 years, Ben Nye has been a true innovator in theater and character makeup designing characters from makeup on classics like; Gone With the Wind, The King and I, and Planet of the Apes. Only naturally would he design a line to meet his specific needs, and the company continues to be a leader in film and theatre makeup to this day.

Recently, I headed down to Norcostco, a national theater supply store, to see Ben Nye for myself. M.A.C on crack is how I’d describe the line, which now ranges from everyday foundations and shadows, to glittery fantasy makeup, and just about anything in between. Over the next hour I would find unique treasures that I’d never experienced at the most amazing prices, (I’ll review the rest over the next week or so). But for today, we’ll talk shadows.

If you’re a true makeup lover longing for velvety, colorful, easy to blend shadows that are really inexpensive, then you MUST check these out. For around $7 a piece, these generously sized shadows, which come in loose or pressed, will blow you away with their richness and wearability. You’ll find gorgeous everyday colors and those that are rare and super bold.

Ben Nye is available through atalogue ordering, or also at Norcostco and many other theater and costume stores nationwide. Click below to order a free catalogue (it’s so fun i’ve looked through mine probably 10 times), also see if there is a Norcostco near you to see the genus for yourself.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup

Sometimes applying makeup doesn’t end at the face. Tattoos, skin imperfections and pale winter coloring are all nicely sprayed away in minutes with Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. So few of us actually tan these days, but we still want that warm glow wearing skirts or sleeveless tops. Spray it into your hands and blend it well into the skin, the waterproof formula will (seriously) be there until you wash it off with soap and water. Not sure what color to get and you’re even somewhat fair- get the lightest.

Kett Cosmetics Hydro Foundation

Rarely do I try something so revolutionary and unique that it just blows me away. Introducing Kett Cosmetics Hydro Foundation. Developed by a hi-def TV and film big shot, long-time makeup artist and creative genus, this line caters to the world of high definition television and film where flawless looking skin is a prerequisite. This liquid foundation is water-proof, won’t budge or smudge and has such complete natural looking coverage that you’ll be amazed.

I was amazed that it covered so well without being able to see it on the face. There are 3 types of foundations, this, along with Hydro Proof Makeup (meant to be used with an airbrush), and the Fixx Creme Compact that I also really love. So, if you are a foundation diva and are looking for natural looking coverage and have tried everything without finding the right one, give this a try. There are a few places that sell them nationwide, but if you shoot them an email they’re super friendly and will be happy to help you out. If you’re a fellow artist, you won’t know what you ever did without these products in your kit.
