Laura Mercier Holiday 2011

When it comes to color, Laura Mercier is hard to beat especially if you’re like me and revel in great quality makeup. Their holiday collection is still available and really worth a look. Just a few new shades and techniques can make for a new updated look for 2012.

Their Baked Eye Colour Palette $48 was probably my favorite offering from all of last year’s holiday collections. Now it’s back with 5 new shades, a double ended brush, and the same rich formula that’s easy to wear and blend.

If a smaller palette is more your speed, check out their Petite Eye Colour Trio $25 in Smoky Neutrals and Smoky Taupes – which is the one I have. It’s a mauve, plum, and neutral pink that compliments most skin tones and gives some fresh options for those who want to escape the ho-hum brown rut we so easily get sucked into.

Their best deal of the bunch, I think, is the Kohl Pencil Set $45 with 5 eyeliners in Stormy Grey, Black Violet, Brown Copper, Black Gold and Black Navy that end up being just $9 a pop. Their creamy formula is so easy to apply because it doesn’t drag on the skin so you can even lay a coat of it down on your lids before you apply shadow for extra dimension to a smokey eye.

And while you’re at it grab a Caviar Stick Eye Colour $24, a creamy liner/shadow hybrid of intense color. They’re pretty unique and way cool for a smudgy, imperfect look which is my favorite for totally sexy morning-after eyes.

All but the Caviar stick (thankfully) are limited, so once they’re gone they’re gone.

Nordstrom Anniversary 2010 Beauty Exclusives

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Only second to Christmas in my book is Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale where new stuff comes in at big time discounts and all of the beauty brands offer value sets and exclusives that you won’t find anywhere else. You can shop the sale online and in-store from now until August 2, so let’s check out the specials that matter most; cosmetics.

Estee Lauder

Their super popular Pure Gloss collection is introducing 4 limited-edition shades just for this sale. Creative Director Tom Pecheux whipped up his favorite colors for the season, the ones he uses most in his personal kit for fashion shows and photo shoots. ($18)

Lauder is also having a free gift with purchases over $29.50, it’s a 7-piece set valued at $100.

Everyone loves a Chanel shadow quad. I might have to get these shades of matte and shimmery wet/dry shadows because I love the flair they gave to otherwise neutral shades. ($65)

This ‘Ready-to-Wear’ Palette packs a lot of color into such a small space.  It includes 4 shadows, 2 lip glosses, 1 blush, a 3 tone bronzer, and 3 mini applicators in wearable shades to flatter most skin tones.

Deborah Lippmann

Looks like nail color goes from summer subtle to glittery glam this fall. Lippmann’s All That Jazz set includes the new, fun shades Razzle Dazzle, Some Enchanted Evening, and Lady Sings the Blues. ($40)

Bobbi Brown

This ‘Must Haves’ collection will be a hit with Bobbi Brown lovers because it’s so quintessential Bobbi. The set includes a 5 piece shadow palette with a dual ended brush, full sized Everything mascara, Ultrafine Eyeliner Brush (love), full sized Caviar gel liner, full sized Brownie lip color, and a Pink Blossom lip gloss. All told the set is valued at $150, but it’s a steal at $75.

Trish McEvoy

Add a little petite planner to your Trish planner collection. Her ‘Naturally Irresistible Collection’ includes a petite page for the mini planner with their new Warming Brightening Quad, 4 new shadow shades, black eye pencil, and Nude Shimmer gloss. ($95)

Laura Mercier

I might have to get Mercier’s Portable Beauty Collection just for the bag. They included their most popular shades into a split-pans for cheeks and eyes giving you 2 eye and 2 cheek colors. You also get a dual ended gloss, Long Lash mascara and dual-ended brush.

Every beauty line is offering something, these are just a few. You’ll find a complete listing of beauty exclusives and gift with purchases HERE

So Long Matte Face: Rules for Radiant Cheeks

You’re probably tired of me talking about adding radiance to the skin, but it’s so key in getting a healthy look that I can’t stress the point enough. Even if you’re oily matte is not your friend, the look adds years and it’s so 90’s. Getting your daily dose of radiance is as easy as sweeping on a little blush with a hint of glow that will have all eyes on your beautifully lit cheeks.

First though, I want to illustrate exactly what I’m talking about when I say radiance.

Matte vs. Radiance.

Jennifer Aniston was the poster girl for the 90’s matte makeup trend. When the skin’s natural finish is overshadowed by matte makeup, it looks flat and dull.

And here’s Jen now sporting the modern look of luminous skin. The difference is made with the weight and finish of the makeup, she’s still getting great coverage but with something that highlights her skin instead of covering it up. She’s 9 years older in the second pic, but looks younger and fresher.

Makes sense now seeing it that way right? Good, now let’s see some radiant cheek colors.

The Supernatural You Make Me Blush from Philosophy is a bronzy blushy combo that dances along the cheekbones to softly highlight them using a light-yet-well-pigmented mineral formula. In the light, you can see the soft gold tone in the shades that give the skin some serious dimension.

Laura Mercier’s Mineral Cheek Powder also uses minerals to jazz up the complexion. It’s the nature of minerals to add depth to the skin, and to never look chalky or harsh. It’s a formula that serves up a light dose of initial color that can be built up as much as you’d like. This shade (Coral) looks really orangey in the pot, but it took several layers to look this dark against my fair skin. Translation: it’s hard to over-do it.

Makeup Artist Christopher Drummond uses finely milled mica in his Sateen Blush collection for the most radiant look out of the bunch. I got 2 compliments the first time I wore it, which never happens with blush. Build the color on slowly and apply it in natural light, you’ll probably use a lot less blush than you normally do because of how great your skin will look using the slightest amount.

Alluring Apricot is the shade shown
Just remember, weight is key when finding a radiant blush. Something that has a sheen and a heavy weight to it will translate into a frosted 80’s mess. Minerals are always a good option, and so is choosing a color that isn’t too light which can also look a little frosty because the sheen will show up more than the color – another big no-no.
Beautifully accentuated cheekbones are always in style, so give them the punch of radiant color they deserve.

Highlight Lips, Eyes, and Cheeks with Laura Mercier’s Radiant Créme Cheek Colour

I talk a lot about adding radiance to the skin, it’s an important technique to learn because it adds a glow that’s healthy and young looking. Every woman should own something that gives radiance or highlights the skin. I’m still using Laura Mercier’s Radiant Créme Cheek Colour compact on my lids, cheeks, and inner corners of my eyes. It’s a creme to powder texture that stays in place and gives a glow to the skin without being too creamy which can tend to look greasy.

For normal to dry skin, rub a little of the peachy or berry color on the apples of your cheeks before applying foundation. You’ll notice a subtle hint of glow that you’ll want  daily. If you tend to be more on the oily side, chances are you don’t want any extra shine. Use the gold color in the inner corners of your eyes day or night to make your eyes sparkle. You can layer any of the colors on your lids to give powder shadows more dimension, or you can even add a dab to the center of your lips for a stand-out pout.

You’ll find the (limited edition) palette HERE while supplies last.

My Spring Wish list; Créme Colors that Pop

I can’t keep up with all of the new, cool things that are being introduced for spring. Here are a few on my wish list that I can’t wait to have.

Laura Mercier’s Radiant Créme Cheek Color compact gives you 3 easy-to-wear shades to highlight and add radiance to your cheeks, eyes, and face. The formula isn’t too creamy and dries to an almost powdery finish so you could even use it on the inner corners of your eyes to give a  pop of shine for day or night.

Looks like I’m not the only one who can’t wait to have Stila’s new Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner- it’s sold out on their site. This thin pen holds a lasting formula and a fine tipped applicator, a winning combination for an evenly placed line that stays in place.

MAKE UP FOR EVER has a perfect compliment to their best-selling HD Foundation, an HD Blush. It’s a creamy, easy to blend cheek color in a pump tube that dispenses exactly the right amount for each application. Choose from 14 shades that range in vibrancy and tone to suit any skin tone and preference.

Laura Mercier Zen Palette

Here’s a sneak peek of Laura Mercier’s Zen Palette available in March. I love the  shadows and can’t wait to try that pistachio color. Light green is a great shade for all skin tones if you dust a little bit on the inner corners of your eyes. It’s an unexpected color for a highlighter but it looks great every time.

You won’t be able to buy the Zen Palette for a few more weeks, but you can check out their Polished Collection for Spring on their newly redesigned site HERE.
