NYX Xtreme Lip Cream

Xtreme Lip Cream $6 from NYX is pretty fantastic; high pigment, rich, creamy, and a gorgeous gloss-like shine. I’m addicted to mine, and I don’t usually like to wear lip color. There’s just something about the way the cream makes my lips look that I really love and I get an easy boost of much needed color.

11 shades available

The one I have is this one- Nude Peach Fizz, it looks a little darker in the photo.

It reminds me of the same color Pamela Anderson (and every other playmate) is known for wearing – a peachy-pinky nude.

Kim Kardashian also rocks that slightly-deeper-than-nude shade that I love.

On the lips.

Although this shade is my fav, the whole collection is like a best-of for the sexiest and easiest to wear lip colors around. Do the ol’ wet toothbrush on your lips to exfoliate them before gliding it on, its dense formula works best on soft lips.

Bubble & Bee

I’m literally mid-order for a few things from Bubble & Bee right now which I think says a lot about the line. I don’t buy a lot of products since it’s part of my job to receive stuff so I can review it all for you. And it’s not like I don’t have a body wash or 10 sitting around, but I just love their Squeezed Lime scent made from organic saponified oils (along the lines of Dr. Bronners) with a smell that literally makes my mouth water. It’s so fresh and clean that I just love it.

Also in my order is their Peppermint Vanilla Salt Scrub that I’ve described as feeling a cool, minty tingle long after you use it on your skin. The combo seems like a weird one, but it just works.

Their USDA organic lip balms are hard to beat too for long lasting moisture, so I grabbed a few while they’re on sale today.

I’ve tried dozens of natural deodorants, but always go back to their Geranium Lime Pit Putty which now comes in a cream with added baking soda for more protection. I grabbed a sample size for $4.

But wait. What the hell is a Soap Nut? They also sell these unrelated to bath and body care, but totally fascinating dried berries from the Soapnut Tree (which apparently is a real tree..) that give off natural saponins – basically nature’s way of making a soap that so many labs recreate using harsh chemicals. Check em out HERE along with a short video showing them in action. Apparently you can reuse just 4-5 of them in your washer several times giving your laundry an added boost of natural cleansing.

Jane Iredale Roses & Lollipops Compact to Benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer

There are a lot of products out there this October claiming to support various breast cancer causes. I’m pretty cautious about Pinkwashing, the newly coined term for companies who schlep products to ‘support’ breast cancer when it’s something like junk food or chemical-heavy cosmetics – you know, the things that are directly linked to the disease itself. One company that I do like and trust is Jane Iredale and their Roses & Lollipops compact, a best selling lip color and gloss in a cute mirrored compact with a key chain. Iredale donates 100% of the sales profits (not the same as total sales, but still a fair amount) to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a charitable organization you can learn more about HERE that donates 84 cents on every dollar to their cause.

It’s a cute compact with a universal appeal, great for a gift.

2 wearable pink shades.

I’m a sucker for pink gloss.

You can check out a poignant piece on Pinkwashing HERE at Forbes.com. Support a great cause, but know where your money is going first.

Bite Beauty

Using food grade colorants and the super antioxidant resveratrol, Bite Beauty has stormed onto the beauty scene with a very modern approach to natural lip color. I’ve been looking for something exactly like this for years for both myself and my kit – a professional grade lip collection that offers high pigment but without the use of harsh chemicals. Mineral lipsticks are fine, as are the ones from organic lines, but nobody gets it as perfectly right as Bite does. More of my take on the line after a look at the goods.

The kit I received; Define & Refine Lip Set

Even the packaging is cool

Lip Shine in Prosecco

Luminous Crème Lipstick in Rosè

High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate

Swatches of all 3 to see the difference in finish and intensity; Prosecco, Rosé, and Pomegranate. Don’t be overly jealous of my veiny hands, they’re very Angelina Jolie..

I’m not a lipstick wearer, not a lip color wearer actually but this line has me totally inspired because of how beautiful their colors look on the lips. Their Lip Shine is my favorite gloss I’ve used to date. Really! There’s something captivating about how it coats the lips filling in any dry areas with a beautiful sheen. I put it on and literally stared at my mouth from different angles marveling at how great it looked. Bright colors appear more sophisticated when they’re matte which is why High Pigment Matte Pencils are stunning in the long-wearing bold shades they offer. Luminous Crème Lipstick is everything a lipstick should be; moisturizing, creamy, and fun to wear. All formulas are without yucky stuff you’d rather not lick off, which is typically where your lip color goes when it wears away.

My favorite kind of companies are those that do one thing really well (although Bobbi Brown started off with only 10 lipsticks so you never know..) Check out Bite Beauty online or the next time you’re in Sephora. I can guarantee that Bite will have you excited about lip color.

Makeup Before and After: Camille

Another great before and after with Camille, a bride I met recently for her makeup trial-run before her big day in October. She has huge blue eyes with a ton of lid space and a perfect crease- most women need surgery for lids like this. Her fair skin just needed a little bronzing, some pink lips, and taupe lids to get the perfect amount of pop. With fair skin, keep in mind that color is amplified so it’s easy to go overboard without realizing it. Sheer formulas and a light bronzer are your friends.

Beautiful Before..

…And Beautiful After

My Hero Products For the Look:

Estée Lauder: Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée from their limited Fall 11′ Modern Mercury Collection

Lighter in color and weight than most bronzers, this illuminating gel-powder gives the skin natural warmth without deepening the tone too much. I used it to frame her face, extending down her neck for a seamless transition. There’s no need for a spray tan on your wedding day, bronzer gives an even (and predictable!) application every time.

Alima Pure: Press Pass Limited Edition Shadow from their Fall Runway Collection

Alima’s Press Pass is a sheer, smokey taupe to punch up her blues without a heavy or smokey look – it’s a wedding not a night club. When looking for shadows to suit your skin, keep in mind the weight of the formula and not the actual color; fair skin is flattered by sheer shades and deeper skin tones can wear more saturated ones. Measure the shadow’s weight by applying swatches of the color on the back of your hand, if you can’t see any skin showing through from behind the shadow it’s not a sheer formula. The more skin that shows through, the more sheer it is.

Tarte: LipSurgence in Frisky

Camille, like me, isn’t a big lipstick wearer, but a lip color is essential when photographs are involved. I LOVE (and wear) Tarte’s Lipsurgence lip tints. They’re a sort of tinted gel balm that give enough sheer color   to avoid looking washed out. I have a more neutral one I wear daily, then a punched up version (like Frisky) that I wear for TV appearances.

Heavy vs Sheer. Keeping weight in mind when choosing color will open up new doors for fair-skinned ladies looking to keep it feminine without overdoing it.

Pixi Succulent Lip Twin

I love innovative products like Lip twin. Pixi’s wonder-duo wins my approval for a few reasons; first it’s a two in one concept that actually works for both. PIxi skipped trying to market a cream that works for both lips and cheeks (since most rarely do) and put a cheek specific formula on the top (the ball shape) separate from the big tube of lip color. Second, cheek color fades throughout the day so a quick cheek touch up is a brilliant thing to make so easy.

Here’s the packaging

And the tube, about the same size as a traditional gloss tube

Taken apart, the cheek color twists off to allow application of the lip gel. They can be used separately while the other is fully covered.
