Best Anti-Aging Skin Care From WebMD.com

There’s a fantastic article at WebMD about skin aging and what ingredients truly deliver results. You can check out the article HERE, but I’ve highlighted 2 that seem to be the most effective of the bunch; Coffee Berry antioxidants and Peptides.

While Vitamins, C, A, E, Green Tea, and other antioxidants are perhaps the best known, WebMD found studies that suggest Coffee Berry is not only the clear leader in antioxidant effectiveness, but the most powerful anti-aging ingredient around . Priori has created a natural line (and a mineral makeup I love) around Coffeeberry extract. Check out their Day Complex for an A.M. dose of big-time environmental protection.

Also among the darlings of skincare are peptides, a chain of proteins that have been used in studies to promote wound care and stimulate collagen. Now tripeptides are all the rage, an uber-advanced designer peptide that helps to break down aging catalysts while promoting collagen production. The article mentioned Osmotics Anti-Radical Age Defense Barrier Longevity Complex, a Tripeptide packed cream that assists damaged skin on all fronts.

Also mentioned about a bazillion times in their video report – sunscreen, it’s still the very best anti-aging solution to prevent damage to the skin. Use it daly no matter what.

Super Duper Skin Care

Skin care is getting more and more advanced, so there’s no excuse to not love the look of your skin. Check out my picks for some skin care that has been giving my skin the royal treatment.

The Super Duper Do-It-All Skin Reviving Serum

SkinMedica’s skin boosting serum is widely regarded as one of the best on the market for changing skin on a few fronts. TNS Essential Serum uses a powerful growth factor combined with peptides to get into the skin cells and repair them so when they make their way up to the surface, they create younger looking skin that’s less wrinkled and more radiant. 7 antioxidants are used to fight off environmental damage to protect the youthful, new skin it helps to create.

The At-Home Peel

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare (formerly MD Skincare) makes a bunch of stuff that I love, but recently I’m addicted to their Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel. For half the cost of a peel done by a pro, you’ll have a month’s worth of pads that will correct redness, calm acne, chase away fine lines, tighten large pores, and address dull skin. It didn’t leave my face flaky or red, it just started doing its thing right away to calm an annoying breakout and give my skin a totally rested and alert look.

The Smart Cleanser

Who cares about a cleanser right? You rub it on then wash it all off, it doesn’t matter what’s in it as long as it’s getting skin clean. Not true with Erno Laszlo because they’re  taking cleansing a step further with their Firmarine, a Spirulina Maxima and Algae Extract rich cleansing bar that strengthens and firms the skin even after it’s washed away.

The Beautiful Moisturizer

I’ve been prepping my client’s skin with Intraceuticals Opulence Moisture Brightening Cream because it adds so much radiance to the skin, I’m cutting down the amount of foundation I use on them by half. I wore it today by combining it with a drop of liquid bronzer which made my skin practically glow. How many moisturizers can make your skin look that good instantly?

The Nourishing Eye Oil

Eye cream, yes, but eye oil? You bet. Before bed, I’ve been using an oil under a cream for added moisture before wearing a silk eye mask to keep it all in place. You don’t have to do the whole routine like I do, just get a moisturizing oil like Bioelements new All Things Pure Eye Oil. It absorbs easily into the skin and has an ingredient lineup that’s so pure you could eat it.

Beauty Big 3: Eve Pearl

5 time Emmy Award winning celebrity Makeup Artist (who’s also Meredith Vieira’s personal Makeup Artist for the Today Show) has a fabulous line of cosmetics customized to fit the needs of both celebs under the hot lights, and us girls looking for an easy routine with beautiful results. Here are Eve’s Beauty Big 3 that she didn’t have to go very far to find.

Beautiful Eve, she looks like she knows beauty right?

Foundation:

Pearl’s best-selling HD Dual Foundation (I use it in my kit) is of course her pick for fav foundation. She said she developed it for those with sensitive skin as not just a makeup, but as a treatment as well. It has “powerful antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, peptides, and proteins with a natural sunscreen equivalent to an SPF 20, an alternative to those who are allergic to SPF.” It’s a versatile coverage that can go from sheer to full depending on how it’s applied, and all ages can enjoy wearing it.

Mascara:

Her go-to for everyday wear is her Glamour Lash mascara. She loves it because, “it’s completely smudgeproof and tear proof.” When she’s looking to create dark lashes with tons of drama, she goes for Lancome Definicils.

Moisturizer:

I think moisturizers are usually the hardest pick because there are so many out there. Pearl agrees, but favors her own Priming Moisturizer with Astaxanthin because it’s “multifunctional and gives you all the benefits of a moisturizer, primer, sheer tint of color and sun protection… without using SPF or perfumes and chemicals. It works great for women and men.” And just what is Astaxanthin, you ask? It’s a very powerful antioxidant 500 times stronger than vitamin E.

Here is her short vid of Eve explaining how to be a part of their big upcoming promotion.

You can check out the complete line on her site HERE, where you’ll also find tons of videos on application as well as before and after photos that show the products in action.

Osmotics, Seriously Advanced Skincare; Q&A With Their Founder Francine Porter

My first ‘wow’ moment using skin care came years ago when I first tried Osmotics. A colleague at Nordstrom who worked for the line had given me a sample of their Blue Copper cream (a best seller to this day) because my skin was starting to see the early consequences of the tanning, poor eating, and even cigarette smoking I did back in the day. Within weeks, I could see that the overall clarity of my skin had changed. It looked brighter, broke out less, and the fine lines banished. In the 10 years since I’ve tired Osmotics, so much has changed in technology (and in my skin..)

I reached out to the Denver-based company because I wanted to give the line another look and see if their founder, Francine Porter would answer a few questions about Renovage, a serum that reduced the lines around my eyes so quickly and completely that I don’t think I’ll need to Botox there anymore.

It’s not too often that your request for time with the company’s owner is granted, so I was thrilled with the thoughtful answers she gave me to the questions I had about Renovage, skin care technology, and what (if anything) can fight wrinkling the way Botox can.

Q- Women usually want to get into a fluffy, fun business like beauty, but Osmotics is more science than beauty and fluff. How did you become involved in producing such an advanced line of skin care?

A- I have always suffered from extremely sensitive skin and really couldn’t find products that I could tolerate much less see a positive difference in my skin. When we were brainstorming Osmotics, cosmeceuticals were in their infancy. We wanted to introduce a new level of scientific credibility to skin care and felt that cosmeceuticals provided that higher level of efficacy and would become the future of skin health We knew the baby boomers would challenge the orthodoxy when dealing with aging skin and we certainly didn’t want to be just another ineffectual cosmetic brand. We developed protocols in our company that had similarities to pharmaceutical development and made a commitment to only develop products based on scientifically proven technologies... and that is why our products are so effective.

Q- It seems like each product you introduce has bigger and better technology, is there a time when older products become obsolete or do they become classics?

A- Some technologies absolutely become obsolete and need to be replaced with more effective alternatives, for example sunscreens. We were one of the first to incorporate Parsol 1789 (addresses the UVA spectrum) into our sun care products. New information is constantly evolving and leading us to a better understanding of the skin and how it works and we utilize this to constantly improve our products so they perform better. However, having said that, I think there will always those few products that on some level make an emotional connection to women and become so universally popular (and loved!) that they become classics.

Q- What does Renovage Cellular Longevity Serum offer women that other products in the marketplace can’t?

A- Renovage is based on teprenone, which comes from the study of cellular DNA. I was so excited about this technology because it really does address aging skin at the cellular level and we saw incredible results on the panelists that it was tested on. I believe we are the only cosmeceutical company utilizing this amazing technology that not only helps repair damaged skin but also helps slow down and prevent signs of aging. I also included a cornucopia of additional ingredients that repair collagen, reinforce the dermis and address free radicals . No other product on the market contains such a complete combination of proven anti-aging ingredients.

Q- Who is Renovage for exactly? A woman with sun spots and wrinkles? Is it for more advanced damage or the woman with some concerns about her skin that are just starting to show?

A- Renovage works perfectly for BOTH. It works beautifully on mature skin but has such tremendous benefits that prevent signs of aging by delaying the senescence of the cells (increasing the lifespan of the cells). So everyone can benefit from this technology regardless of age.

Q- Do you believe anything can turn around wrinkles the way Botox can?

A- Our Crease-Less Non Surgical Alternative is a topical product that helps to slow down the muscle contractions that cause expression wrinkles. It works on the same principle as Botox but works a bit more slowly and is a more conservative approach for those that aren’t quite ready for Botox and needles. It’s also excellent for preventing these kinds of wrinkles [that are caused from facial expression]. In addition, it’s perfect to use with Botox (apply daily to targeted areas) to enhance its effects and extend the time between Botox injections!

Thank you to Francine and the Osmotics team who were so fantastic.

Gina loves the yet-to-be-released Film Noir Mascara from Hourglass for good reason,  she helped to create it. She has been using lab samples on her star clients and all during Fashion Week for the Fall 2010 shows with dream results. Who better to develop a mascara than the woman who has probably used buckets of the stuff from every line out there over the years? Look for it in August at Sephora and Barneys.

Her go-to for giving the skin a healthy dose of moisture, which we all know makes for the best looking skin is Moisture Binding Cream by Intraceuticals. Its vitamins, green tea, essential oils, and hyaluronic goodness will give the face a plump, smooth look so makeup glides effortlessly on.

Beauty Big 3: Iris Moreau

Hooked On Beauty is proud to present a new ongoing series called Beauty Big 3 where I ask Celebrity Makeup Artists what’s their favorite Foundation, Mascara, and Moisturizer since those are the 3 products that most capture our loyalty.

Kicking off the series is Iris Moreau, Celebrity Makeup Artist who has worked with Anna Kournikova, Ashlee Simpson, Eva Longoria, and Rosanna Arquette to name a few. I asked what her Beauty Big 3 were, and here’s what she said.

Foundation:

One of her two picks for foundation was Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation because of its weightless, natural looking finish.

Pro Lumére from Chanel was her other foundation pick because it has light-reflecting pigments that offer the skin a radiant finish.

Mascara:

DiorShow Mascara from Christian Dior has been a favorite of Makeup Artists of years because it’s a super dark black and the brush builds tons of volume and length.

Moisturizer:

Aloe Vera Intense Moisture Cream by FACE Stockholm is her pick for fav moisturizer for all skin types to soothe and prep the skin before adding makeup.
