How to Get A No-Chip Manicure At Home Using CND VINYLUX

Do I love Shellac- the breakthrough polish applied by pros that stays shiny and chip-free for 2 weeks? Of course, doesn’t everyone? Do I have time to go to the salon for a Shellac manicure? Let me give you a hint: absolutely not.

My sister Stacy works for CND and travels all over the world preaching the gospel of nails so when she promised I wouldn’t be disappointed with their new no-chip at home polishes I couldn’t wait to try them out.

VINYLUX boasts a week long chip-free mani but I’ve found it to last much longer and be just as enduring as Shellac. You don’t need a base coat but using their special top coat is key and you use acetone to remove it. Its as easy as applying any other polish but it dries completely in just minutes without using a curing lamp. It’s pretty amazing stuff.

Powder My Nose. I used it on my toes too but I’ll spare you that pic because feet in general are gross.

I’m on day 4 of my mani and my polish looks day 1 fresh and I got 3 weeks out of my last VINYLUX pedi. I’m so glad to finally have a long-wering DIY option for my typically beat up looking nails.

I’m really hoping the fundraising efforts via Kickstarter pan out for NailSnaps because it’s such a solid idea. Check out the video below showing how you can make custom nail art using photos from your phone using the (not yet released) NailSnaps app and support their efforts if you think it’s a cool idea that deserves a shot.

Estée Lauder Fall 2013 Metallics Pure Color Nail Lacquer Collection

Estée Lauder’s fall collection is all about bold, rich metallics and the new Pure Color Nail Lacquers are beyond gorgeous. I couldn’t wait to bring the violet one into the nail salon to get a pedi that wasn’t a neutral pink or whatever soft shade I usually opt for. These colors are vibrant and fun and inspire me to keep my nails looking great. There’s something unique about Lauder’s polishes that seem to really strengthen my nails better than most. Here are 6 of the 8 shades from Metallics swatched below. Check em out soon before they’re gone forever as seasonal collections always are.

Orly Shade Shifter Color Changing Gel Manicure

Just last Monday during my pedicure I overheard some lady asking if they carried the polish that can change color when you wear it. Obviously I thought she was crazy as did the nail tech until I saw Orly’s Shade Shifter color changing coat come across my screen today.

Over their gel manicure colors, you can add a coat of Shade Shifer, a different color and the primary one you’ll see until you get warm or cold and then it changes. It’s crazy! Check out the quick vid below to see how it works (click HERE to watch it on YouTube if you’re viewing this in an email.)

Sarah Bland and the Latest in Nail Art

I almost never have polish on my hands, but that doesn’t stop me from obsessing over the Instagram photos posted by nail artist to the stars Sarah Bland. Glitter gels, ombré, patterns, and mismatched colors are the hottest in nail fashions and she does it all.

All photos are Sarah Bland’s via Instagram. Follow her and check out her site with more images and info on how to book with her in LA HERE.

Nail Trends: Leather and Velvet and Feathers (Oh My)

Nail art is huge right now. Forget color, right now it’s all about texture. Blake Lively wore a velvet mani for her wedding while the company Nails Inc caught fire after Alexa Chung tweeted this pic of her ‘leather mani.’ Now they have a new Bling it On Feathers collection so you can have tiny little (real? fake?) feathery looking bits on your nails. This is a trend I’ll have to sit out since my daughter occasionally chews on my fingers and I’d hate for her to ingest feathers, or velvet, or whatever but beyond that it’s just weird.
