Beauty Big 3: Eve Pearl

5 time Emmy Award winning celebrity Makeup Artist (who’s also Meredith Vieira’s personal Makeup Artist for the Today Show) has a fabulous line of cosmetics customized to fit the needs of both celebs under the hot lights, and us girls looking for an easy routine with beautiful results. Here are Eve’s Beauty Big 3 that she didn’t have to go very far to find.

Beautiful Eve, she looks like she knows beauty right?

Foundation:

Pearl’s best-selling HD Dual Foundation (I use it in my kit) is of course her pick for fav foundation. She said she developed it for those with sensitive skin as not just a makeup, but as a treatment as well. It has “powerful antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, peptides, and proteins with a natural sunscreen equivalent to an SPF 20, an alternative to those who are allergic to SPF.” It’s a versatile coverage that can go from sheer to full depending on how it’s applied, and all ages can enjoy wearing it.

Mascara:

Her go-to for everyday wear is her Glamour Lash mascara. She loves it because, “it’s completely smudgeproof and tear proof.” When she’s looking to create dark lashes with tons of drama, she goes for Lancome Definicils.

Moisturizer:

I think moisturizers are usually the hardest pick because there are so many out there. Pearl agrees, but favors her own Priming Moisturizer with Astaxanthin because it’s “multifunctional and gives you all the benefits of a moisturizer, primer, sheer tint of color and sun protection… without using SPF or perfumes and chemicals. It works great for women and men.” And just what is Astaxanthin, you ask? It’s a very powerful antioxidant 500 times stronger than vitamin E.

Here is her short vid of Eve explaining how to be a part of their big upcoming promotion.

You can check out the complete line on her site HERE, where you’ll also find tons of videos on application as well as before and after photos that show the products in action.

Philosophy The Supernatural = Super Awesome

If ever you’re feeling just a little too good about yourself, might I suggest taking an extreme close-up photo of your face? You come right back down to reality, I promise. Ah, the things I do in the name of product testing.

I gave The Supernatural from Philosophy a whirl recently to see what it does on the skin. It’s a tinted, oil-free foundation primer that also doubles as a skin perfecter with SPF 15. I was sure that it was going to turn my skin bright orange, especially since I’m pretty fair, but it somehow melted into my coloring and gave my skin a brightening boost without adding much (if any) color at all.

It’s a shade that was designed to perfect all skin tones.

Little tube of magic.

The Supernatural is a multi-tasking wonder that’s meant for women who want to prime away fine lines and pronounced pores before applying foundation. It’s also a dream for women who are somewhere in between going bare-faced, and wearing foundation daily. I can find a reason for most women to use it, especially since it works so well.

Here’s the before shot of my apparently hairy face. I swear if you met me I don’t look like the bearded lady, but from this extreme angle all bets are off.

Before…

…and right after

These pics were takes seconds apart after rubbing a little into my clean skin, the lighting was the exact same and I didn’t move where I was standing. It gives your skin an instant soft-focus look that’s so pretty you can probably just use this (with a little concealer if you need) and head on out.

For those of us whose skin needs a little shove in the right direction, this little tube has just what you need. It makes your skin look a lot better, but I’ll warn you from now, it does absolutely nothing for unwanted facial hair.

Review; L’Oreal Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch Skin Perfecter

Looks like L’Oreal just gave Clarins a run for its money. I’ve been a long-time fan of Clarins’ Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch to smooth out the skin by filling in wrinkles and  texture imperfections before applying makeup. It gives one of the prettiest finishes of any primer I’ve used because of its cushy consistency and immediate results. L’Oreal just came out with a similar version of their own- it has the same consistency and benefits, but for less than half of the Clarins version.

Rub a little around the eyes, mouth, and into large pores or areas with uneven texture. You’ll see an instant smoothing of the skin that gives almost a blurred effect. Since it sinks into wrinkles and fills them up, makeup sits higher on the skin and doesn’t fall into (and emphasize) imperfections. Great for everyday use on all skin types.

So Happy Together; Pairing Up Products for Creative, New Looks

You may not buy things with the intention of using them together, but a little creativity could help you to really see the value in what you have and be able to use it differently.  Here are a few examples of the power of pairing.

Primer + Bronzer = Beautiful, Bronzy Skin

When the temperature starts to heat up for summer, the weight of your makeup should change.  Heavy looking foundations look harsh in the sunlight, so try mixing a shot of bronzing fluid with a primer. Putting the bronzer into something colorless will lighten it a bit so you can use it all over the face for a natural looking bronzed glow. Using the primer evens out the skin’s texture so your skin looks great without foundation.

Primer alone, bronzer alone, then both mixed together on the bottom.

Using a lightweight primer like Napoleon’s that isn’t just a silicone gel is more ideal for mixing. Noah’s Naturals bronzer is made without parabens, glycol, and petroleum so it’s gentle enough to use on the face daily.

Liquid Eye Liner + Angled Lining Brush = Lasting Liner That’s Easy to Apply

When it comes to an eyeliner that lasts, liquid is at the top of the food chain, the formula stays on all day and doesn’t smudge. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a steady hand, applying the liner with the wand that’s included can be impossible. Instead, apply the liner with an angled brush so you have better control and a more precision point.

Get some liner on the tip of the angled brush

Now you can use a liner that lasts with an easier-to-use brush.

Nude Gloss + Different Lip Liner Shades = Custom Gloss Colors

Finding a gloss that’s perfectly nude (doesn’t lean toward pink or beige) isn’t easy, but once you find one, grab it up. You can wear it solo when you want muted lips (for when you’re wearing more color on your lids), or you can mix it with different lip liner shades to make custom gloss colors.

Use the neutral gloss with any color liner, Estee Lauder Double Wear Liner in Pink and Spice are shown.
Now you have a look that has more color than a gloss alone, but is lighter in weight than a lipstick.

Dense Concealer + A Touch Up Brush = Quick Coverage

Very few women need to wear foundation. Just covering up redness with some concealer usually evens out the skin using fewer steps and a lot less blending. Just be sure to use a thick concealer like BECCA’s Compact Concealer, it will give you coverage that mimics a foundation’s. When you use Bobbi’s Touch Up Brush to apply it, you’ll get a look that’s almost airbrushed. I haven’t found another brush I like as well for applying concealer because it can work it into the skin so perfectly without wiping it all away.

Applying the concealer this way gives as good of coverage as foundation, but with better control.
Blend the concealer in to get as little or as much coverage as you need.

What look are you trying to achieve? Chances are, you have a few things laying around that when paired together, can make all the difference.

Temptu Airbrush Makeup

When I was in LA I visited Temptu with the same enthusiasm most kids have for visiting Disney Land. The popularity of their at-home airbrush kit at Sephora along with their professional airbrush line exploded in recent months and put the line firmly on the map as a heavy-hitting contender that gives great face. I’d heard all about their silicone based airbrush makeup with a beautiful finish and just the right amount of coverage. It’s an airbrush line with a twist because you can spray it though the gun or use it the traditional way with fingers, brushes, or a sponge. I have several airbrush foundation lines in my arsenal, but this is my absolute go-to on skin that’s dry, mature, or damaged since the silicone formula rests beautifully on even the most challenging surfaces.

Whether I’m working on brides or on set, this formula stands up to lights, heat, and many hours passing by. Now this is the professional S/B (silicone based) formula I’m talking about, it’s also what I used to make the video below. You can get a flawless airbrush makeup look every day with this at-home system that’s blowing up at Sephora. It’s a smaller, more manageable compressor that’s perfectly sized for everyday use with easy to manage cartridges that you buy in your shade of foundation and blush.

Temptu is a smart, modern cosmetic company that understands the needs of artists and everyday women. If you’re a makeup artist, check out their pro line, otherwise you can try out their at-home airbrush system at Sephora stores.

Here’s a few pics I snapped from their LA store.

They have an impressive list of pro artists who use Temptu and have photos showing their work using the products.

Stila One Step Makeup

I haven’t given the green light on a Stila liquid foundation in the history of HOB. I like their Illuminating Powder Foundation, but haven’t tried a liquid one of theirs since the long discontinued Complete Coverage. The buzz alone on One Step was enough to get me to try this foundation which has quickly changed my tune about Stila’s ability to give good face.

One Step is a revolutionary new foundation that gives the benefits of 4 products in one; primer, foundation, concealer, and powder. It has a really unique consistency that’s almost like a mousse with a light powdery feel and coverage that can be built from medium to full.

For a little more coverage after you’ve used it as a foundation, use a concealer brush to dab it over blemishes and red spots to get a concealer effect because of its rich density.

Does it take the place of a powder? No, it isn’t drying on the skin, but using a powder to set the makeup and keep it in place isn’t necessary. It primes the skin, covers what you need it to, and sets itself.

In true Stila form, the color has a tinge of luminosity to it, nothing harsh though, just enough to where it isn’t flat looking on the face, and having a silicone-based primer built right in helps with the appearance of fine lines,

My skin tends to be normal to slightly shiny in my t-zone and I felt the formula was well suited for me. If you struggle with overly dry skin, you might find the formula a little drying, but I can see most skin types being able to wear it.

Bottom line- One Step gives complete coverage and a pretty finish, all in one little bottle.
