I’m such a weirdo about the sun that I basically dress like a damn beekeeper when I’m outside. I have good reason though, years of tanning beds and overall recklessness with my skin has me now paying for those sins (Botox!) and trying to make up for what I can. This is why year-round I wear sunscreen. Rain or shine. Whether I’m outside or not. It’s just how I roll.
It’s a good habit to get into so if you haven’t found an SPF to suit your skin, check out these 5 that I hand picked from my own collection that will work with all different skintypes and budgets.
Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant SPF 30 $13.50 This is a cult fave for a reason usually found in a bathroom cabinet arm in arm with luxury brands much pricier than its $13 tag. Women go crazy for this light whipped lotion because it gives great moisture and sinks into the skin leaving behind a healthy looking glow. It’s so popular in summer because that radiance boost makes it easy to just skip foundation altogether, and every skintype (even sensitive) can wear it.
Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 $54 Often times physical sunscreens like this one that use Zinc and Titanium tend to be drying because that’s just the nature of how those minerals behave, but when you mix in her moisturizing argan oil you have a near-perfect combination of hydration, minerals, and powerful SPF 47 protection. One pump covers my face and neck so this 4oz jar they sent me last spring still has enough in it to last through this summer. This is a great pick for all skintypes except for those who are really oily and probably wouldn’t appreciate the moisture it gives.
COOLA Mineral Face Matte Finish SPF 30 $36 This one makes you forget you’re even using a sunscreen because it acts so much like a primer. It’s an organic, vegan, gluten, and cruelty free formula that mattes out the skin and fills in pores and tiny imperfections giving a great canvas for makeup (or alone on bare skin.) It’s matte so those who are really dry would probably want this one
instead, but if you’re looking for something quick in the morning that’s not fussy and makes skin look great, I think you’ll really love it.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 15 $34 I’ve been buying Anthelios for so many years because it’s one of the best sunscreens around. It’s made using Mexoryl which helps sunscreen to work better and not break down so quickly so you get a better wear time to the SPF. It’s also such a balanced hydration that works for dry, sensitive, and oily skins alike. It’s one of the best selling sunscreens worldwide which is why there are now so many different versions of Anthelios sold.
Obagi Sun Shield SPF 50 $50 A friend told me that this was the first sunscreen she could wear without her sensitive skin breaking out into a rash. Obagi makes medical grade skincare and this SPF 50 will protect against UVA and UVB rays. It’s lightweight and good for all skintypes except for dry. They reformulated into this version from their Healthy Skin and made it matte so those who are sensitive and oily will really like how it seems to sop up oil so well especially on those hot summer days.
