Lela Rose’s Spring 09′ collection is everything I love about beauty; the clothes were feminine, colorful, and fresh. Not only did I catch a great show, (and get pics of Kellie Pickler and Jennifer Love Hewitt in the process) but I got all the inside goods beforehand from the experts backstage who created the looks.
Makeup artist to the stars Tina Turnbow for Beauty.com made every girl shine in her creation using Stila. Rose and Turnbow got together to create makeup glamour complimentary to the collection. Turnbow said that the collection was inspired by the rainforest with its bold colors and something new hidden in its plentiful layers.
So layer she did.
Turnbow used the blue and green shades from Stila’s new Precious Pearl Palette to create the look of what she described as ‘wet beetle’s wings with multi-layered luminosity and a greenish sheen.’ She also layered on their ultra creamy Emerald Kajal eye liner into the crease and lash line on the outer half of the lid only giving the eyes depth. She didn’t use false lashes, instead opting for lots of Major Lash Mascara.
The skin was kept very natural with Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer pressed into the skin where needed, adding a little bronzer to the cheeks, and Praline Glaze to the lips.
Hair Master Ted Gibson kept the look chic and uptown with styled pony tails. He first created tons of volume with backcombing and adding in Build It to the roots to give the hair a great foundation. After gathering hair back into a pony, he twisted it from the root to the tip, working Tame It Styling Lotion throughout and flashing it with a little heat.
The result was a messy, but still elegant look that’s versatile and fun.
