If you love Smashbox like I do, you probably know Lori Taylor, their Pro Lead Makeup Artist. She’s featured in their video tutorials (like the one below) showing tips and techniques to get modern feminine looks that are easy to wear. Since she travels the world making up faces for a living, I wanted to know her go-to’s to create a professional, runway-worthy look.
Foundation:
Her hands down pick for getting skin camera-ready is Smashbox High Definition Healthy FX Foundation SPF 15 because ‘it melts into the skin for a natural finish that’s guidable but never looks heavy on.’
Mascara:
Her go-to for lashes is Bionic ‘the blackest black I’ve ever worked with and it gives length and volume to even the most challenged lashes.’
Moisturizer:
Getting skin’s moisture balance right is so important so her moisturizer pick is Murad’s Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture because ‘it leaves the skin super hydrated but never greasy and works well with primers and foundations.’

I *love* her tutorials and sub them on yt I like how easy they are to do and the colors she uses aren't too crazy(stuff I'd never wear) She's pretty!
I get heavy smokey eyes, I LOVE them! But they demand such perfect application and in the close-ups in that tutorial I could see just how uneven the black was (which is only natural because it's hard to get opacity using only black eyeshadow, a black base always helps). Messy application always makes me cringe, especially when renowned makeup artists do it.
That look might be good for catwalks or maybe for a themed photo shoot but if I were to see a girl sporting a messy black eye with some gold splattered here and there I'd think she applied her makeup in the dark.
Someone please tell me I'm not the only one 😐
