I’m starting to feel the crush of the last few weeks before school. I’ll miss picking out the girls’ outfits, getting ready, the excitement in the days leading up of meeting the teachers and seeing who’s in the girl’s classes. I’ll miss drop off, hugs with friends, and pictures. This year has stolen small moments from us too, but I’m still grateful for so much.

We decided to use our own curriculum this year to make it easier with 3 kids this age. For the past few weeks I’ve been pouring over curriculum, making sure it meets their school’s criteria. I’m also choosing things that are fun for us and some that we can do together. It’s a whole new world and I feel like I’m teaching myself how to speak Latin.

Is anyone else feeling this way? Confused over school decisions and mournful over small parts of your kid’s day that you loved to share too? I keep telling myself it’s almost over but I don’t know why I would think that. There isn’t any expiration date I’ve heard of any time soon. 😐

Deets from our Steamboat Lake trip on the blog today including how my car turned out to be unsafe to haul and what we had to do about it. Also, our soon to air TV segment BTS, and trip highlights. I think we’re starting to get this camping thing down a little bit.

I’m just finishing up the camping essentials post. Every time I think I’m finished I think of something else that has really helped us so I want to make sure it’s useful. I’ll get that up this week.

Also a remote learning announcement to come this week that I’m both terrified and excited about. So much going on! 🙃

Steamboat lake was dreamy. So dreamy we kept looking to add days onto our stay which didn’t happen, but we will return in a few months.

It’s a perfect campground in a gorgeous setting with ample space between sites, a lake, boat/kayak/paddle board activities, and beautifully well kept.

Wrapping up our Estes Park/ @rockynps RC camping a

Wrapping up our Estes Park/ @rockynps RC camping adventure on the blog today. I highlighted some great hikes for kids, how to get in RMNP (you can’t just show up anymore!), and thoughts on Jellystone Estes.

I’m also working on a post about camping essentials which I’ve very quickly learned about. A friend recommended a Pinterest board for camping which turned out to be a lifesaver. This is sort of a trial by fire going from never camping with zero ‘camping things’ on hand, to being gone a good chunk of the time with the girls having exactly what we need.

What are your camping essentials? I’m still taking any and all advice since we’re only on our 2nd trip. 🙃

Knowing that I’ll be remote learning with the gi

Knowing that I’ll be remote learning with the girls for the next year is such a daunting thought. We know it’s the right choice for our family, but that doesn’t make it any less easy. We continue throughout the summer to start our day with learning, just to keep that practice sharp. We shake it up every day, but I’m focusing on literacy, math, and something creative. We also do a ton of Osmo.

I bought @playosmo when Harper was in Pre-K because her school used it and she just loved it. It has evolved over the years and has so many programs that make learning fun. Lola has been doing a lot of the Little Genius Starter Kit. ABC’s teaches her to draw her letters using squishy sticks and rings in a fun interactive way that feels like a video game. All of my girls love Squiggle Magic where you create different pictures using the sticks and rings. They can literally play this for hours. Costume Party is my go-to when Harper and Everly are reading in the afternoon for some quiet time. It’s a dress up game where you trade out different components of outfits on a character. Stories is using the same costume format but with a story that leads them through obstacles and adventures. It has been our most used learning game for years and one that I can’t recommend enough.

While we were in Estes, we wanted a hike that wasn

While we were in Estes, we wanted a hike that wasn’t in RMNP because we got a pass for just 1 day. Little do the girls know that I’m actually terrified of hiking.

I knew this whole RV adventure would push me the most out of anyone when it came to being outside of my comfort zone. I wasn’t raised with a dad or a mom who was interested in outdoor things so the first time I actually went on a hike was in my 20’s. Mike and I have lived in homes with parks, bluffs, hills, and now a trail system literally outside our front doors for 12 years and I’ve only been on them a handful of times. And now, here as we hike this remote location where we only saw 3 other groups along the way, I’m wondering what happens if one of the girls is bitten by a snake, or if a bear or mountain lion crosses our path. My mind becomes so cluttered with worry and panic that I can feel my chest tighten…

I announced a few weeks ago that we had purchased

I announced a few weeks ago that we had purchased an RV and planned to remote learn with our kids this fall so they’ll still track along with their classes in their same schools but with us at home. Well, sometimes at home and sometimes in the RV. 🌄 We won’t be on the road full time but have some fun adventures planned for the next few months.

As we wrapped up our maiden voyage this week, we realized that camping is sort of an anti-vacation. It's not about the big exciting events like with Disney or an action packed resort, it's a bunch of small moments all strung together that you'll treasure. My favorite moment from that first day was the girls playing cards together in their jammies. Mike taught them a new game and I taught them how to play ♣️Solitaire.

We also learned the hard way how NOT to make the smoke alarm go off in the RV 🔥 (it happened twice), and had a very embarrassing and humbling experience right upon arrival that involved one of our dogs locking sleeping Lola in the car.

Any camping suggestions welcome! We still have so much to learn!

So many things over these past few months have bee

So many things over these past few months have been hard. Spending so much time with my girls isn’t one of those things. I know most parents are cheering about the news of 100% in person school this year, but Mike and I actually thought this was the perfect year to do something different.

Because school is also offering a remote option that will track along with their classes, we decided to buy an RV and learn remotely this year. (Im not using the term ‘homeschool’ because it’s the school’s curriculum- not mine.) So now I’m learning all about the RV, what to bring with us, what to leave, and most importantly- 🏕 where to go?! We won’t travel straight through, we’ll do little out and backs. I think that format works best for the age of our girls and especially with Mike working from the road.

So now we’re booked from July-August and are looking for something in September that might be our last hurrah until January. There is a lot up in the air with Covid and if we have to shelter in place again, so we have a flexible mindset.

We’re trying to decide if we stay in Colorado, or do a Utah route to Arizona. Or maybe Utah and back. Any ideas would be appreciated! Any fave sites we shouldn’t miss?
