Colorado is dry. Like no shit, real deal, seriously dry. We had family in town a few weeks back and they bought a humidifier for their week long stay to pop in their hotel room. Apparently people feel like they’re just going to shrivel up and die without some sort of constant moisture dripping all over them all day long. Babies.
I’m from here so I hardly notice a thing. Well, except for how my face always feels like I’m wearing a day-old clay mask, or that my skin gets itchy in the winter time, or that I get an intense feeling sometimes like I could scratch my scalp forever like a wild dog with fleas. Ok people, I get it. It is dry here. This is why I know all of the tricks- I’ve tried everything to stay moisturized especially in the winter when my skin is at its driest. The coconut oil I use in the summer leaves a nice slip, but doesn’t remedy the itching and oils and fancy serums don’t seem to penetrate as well, especially with scaly skin acting as a sort of barrier.
Aveeno recently sent over a tub of their new Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm which was exactly what I needed. It has a light balmy sort of feel to it that leaves just the silkiest, most amazing non-greasy slip behind. It feels unlike any other moisturizer/ lotion/balm I’ve ever used and my skin feels completely drinks it up. I even use it during the day on my over-washed hands that look like they belong to a weathered 80 year old witch. I can use it and return to typing without leaving any sort of mess on my keyboard which says tons about how well it absorbs. (Or about how dry I am?) I don’t have eczema, but this is also a treatment for that compromised sort of skin because it’s fragrance and paraben-free, as well as hypoallergenic. Because steroids are a common treatment for eczema, this is worth a try before you go that route. (They also have a baby version that we’ve been using on Lola who gets those little bumps on her skin from time to time and it has worked great.)
This really is one of the best skin moisturizers I’ve used and one of those ‘I’ll never do with it’ products that I’ll always have on hand. It’s winter, it’s cold. Don’t look witchy and old. (I love rhymes!) Check out this amazing balm if the cold is getting the best of your skin.
