Essential oils aren’t just used by your hippie vegan friend whose hair is always on the greasy side and often smells of patchouli. They’re now mainstream and peppered into your favorite cleaning products, skincare, natural perfumes, and more. My favorite disinfecting spray from Seventh Generation contains Thymol (thyme) oil to kill bacteria and viruses like H1N1. Before modern medicine and for thousands of years, humans have been using EO’s as medicine to heal various ailments. Even the Mayo Clinic lists benefits of oils, as does this piece on the proven benefits of oils for Alzheimer’s patients.

If you have an ailment, there’s an oil to help. I’ve been researching Essential Oil companies for a while now, trying to find one that was pure and over and over again Rocky Mountain Oils would pop up. I reached out to them a while ago to get some more information on their company and to try out this line that was known for their pure formulas and awesome customer service. Please note, this isn’t a sponsored post but does contain affiliate links. I approached them because of their reputation which they more than lived up to! Here are the products I tried and what they did for our family as well as a few I have on my radar to try in the future.

Headaches

✔️ Diffuse
✔️ Topical
I get hormonal and tension headaches a few times a month and they’re rough. I can feel it start to build in the night and if I don’t take Advil immediately, it’s worse in the morning and hard to shake. Migraine Support uses Basil, Marjoram, Lavender, Peppermint, Helichrysum gymnocephalum, Roman Chamomile, and Helichrysum italicum to ease headache symptoms. I’ve used their Clear Head roll on which is for head tension the past few times I’ve had a headache and was really surprised at the result. While I did take Advil to tackle the bulk of the pain, it knocked out that lingering dull ache that sticks around for hours after. I rolled it behind my ears a few times and it worked relatively quickly to ease the headache completely.
Immune Strength

✔️ Diffuser
✔️ Topical
✔️ Cleaning
✔️ Air Freshener
I was using Doterra On Guard because someone on Facebook was aways selling it. It was fine, but it wasn’t until I researched the line and especially found THIS letter to the company from the FDA warning them to cease making unsubstantiated claims that I really started to doubt the line. THIS article does a deep dive into the company if you want to learn more.
Now I use RMO’s Immune Strength featuring Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Lemon, Orange, Oregano, Mandarin, Thyme, Rosemary, Nutmeg, Ginger Root, and Eucalyptus citriodora in a base of 95% Jojoba Oil to protect and strengthen our immune system and clean the air. I used it all December long because it smells like a yummy spicy chai, perfect for winter months when we aren’t able to open the windows to air out the house. I have 2 diffusers that I have running in the kitchen and living room all day, and another on my nightstand and this is what I’ve been using in each. I also use it in my car thanks to THIS little car diffuser that fits into your cup holder that everyone I know now has. We also have the rollerball application which I rub into my, and my kid’s feet nightly.

The $18 car diffuser I use. Find it HERE
Concentration

✔️ Roll On
✔️ For Kids
You can put Concentrate in your kid’s backpack, or roll some on them every morning before school to give them better mental clarity and focus. The scent is light and can be used on wrists, back of the neck, or bottoms of the feet for kids who are sensitive to scents. I’ve used some myself before sitting down to my computer to ensure more focus, though they do have one I can diffuse which I’d prefer.
Easier Breathing For Kids

✔️ Roll On
✔️ Safe for Kids 2 and Up
Next to Immune Strength, we’ve used Breathe probably the most lately with my little Everly whose colds always go to her chest. We haven’t been using her nebulizers as much (thank God! 🙏🏼) but there are still nights when we go from steamy shower, to humidifier, to inhaler, to a propped up pillow. We pull out all the stops to quiet her coughing and this has become part of the routine. Natural chest rubs sometimes leave a rash on her skin, and make her eyes feel ‘spicy’ from the vapor. This roll on doesn’t smell like the usual chest rub and uses Lemon, Cedarwood Atlas, Frankincense, Black Pepper, Lavender Bulgaria, Roman Chamomile in a base of 98% Fractionated Coconut Oil so it’s slightly citrusy with a hint of warmth. Happy to have something additional in our arsenal that’s natural and safe and doesn’t irritate her skin.
The Do It All Essential

✔️ Topical
✔️ Diffuse
✔️ Household
Lemon is one of their best sellers and one of the most versatile oils around. It’s uplifting when used in a diffuser and a great mood enhancer, you can also mix it with jojoba or coconut oil and use it as a scented body oil or even use a few drops in the tub. Mix it with some water or witch hazel in a spray bottle for a natural air freshener. It’s also one of the best treatments for acne with its astringent, antiseptic, disinfectant and anti-fungal properties. Its high vitamin c content clarifies the skin and helps fade acne scars. A simple Pinterest search yields tons of DIY recipes for lemon oil based skincare. It’s $12 well spent for all it offers.
Here’s what’s different about RMO
What I learned about essential oils over the years was that many companies were valuing cheap pricing over safety and quality so it’s common for companies to source oversees from suppliers they don’t know anything about. Remember THIS 2017 judgement against Young Living for using illegally sourced oils? RMO knows their suppliers and they sample, test, and retest their oils for quality and purity which you can actually track on each bottle. They’re also GC/MS tested (the gold standard for oil testing) by a 3rd party lab to make sure the final product is the same as what was initially purchased and free of dilutants and synthetics.
If you’ve been using Doterra or Young Living, they have a comparison chart HERE where you can find a RMO version of the blend you’ve been using.
Wondering how to use oils for cleaning? Disinfecting? Beauty? General health? They have a section on their site that explains it all and each item’s page offers dilution rates along with its use (topical, diffuse, cleaning, etc.) so you know how each oil is best used.
They also offer a 90 day money back guarantee.
