I won’t say I ‘don’t have time’ because it’s one of those bullshit ‘I’m a mom’ sort of excuses that drives me nuts. What I will say is that it isn’t a priority to spend more than a few minutes getting ready for the day right now (especially if Whole Foods is the most exciting place I’m going.) The girls are typically playing in the bathroom when I’m in there and they just get (understandably) bored after a while so I try to speed it up. The problem is that I still need to wear something and not even for vanity’s sake, my skin requires evening out so coverage is essential. Other than that I add some quick color to my cheeks and lips and of course mascara which is usually enough to look decent in public.

I’ve been using (and loving) Skin Tint foundation from Beauty Counter, but I’ve found that it’s not always enough coverage. I think pound for pound I actually like it better than Jane Iredale’s Glow Time BB Cream that I just bought, but it has better coverage and SPF 25. I also ordered their Disappear concealer meant for redness but I can also use it around my eyes and on my lids without feeling like it’s too drying. I trade off using this concealer with tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless which is what I actually use in my kit – it works great but I’m not always up for the amount of blending that it requires.
I’ll set it using Alima Pure’s Satin Finishing Powder which I’m really loving. They’re this great mineral brand that offers generous samples for $1.75 (shown) so you can check out what color and finish you might be before you commit to buying. I got a ton of samples that will last several months for under $20.
Beauty Counter still has my go-to blush, it’s easy to blend and a great pink shade for summer. Then I’ll throw on a neutral colored Lip Tint (that one is Alima Pure) or a light gloss.
When I’m finished, I set it all using this awesome R.L. Linden and co Thousand Petal Floral Toner which helps makeup look more like skin. For years I’ve used a spray like this on clients, I spritz it onto a damp Beauty Blender and work the makeup into the skin until it becomes invisible. There really must be a thousand petals in there because it’s like $50 (that’s a sample I got from Vert) so you can also use this Caudalîe one which I have in my kit ($18), or just a rosewater or floral mist that like this one ($12) that you can pick up at Whole Foods type store. Do this if your makeup is just sitting on top of your skin and you can still see it, if you’re dry or flakey, or if by mid-day your foundation color changes. You can even mist your face straight on and press it into the skin using your fingers if you’re into simplicity and sponge-free.
The most important part to any beauty routine is getting the skin looking great so once you have that down, the rest is just for fun.
