This month’s Beauty Heroes box should’ve been so exciting for me because I’ve been wanting to check out Bottega Organica for a while now. Their farm-to-skin line features things that just sound good like Extra-nourishing face formula in vanilla and a Lemon Cleansing Face Oil because apparently I like my face to smell like pound cake.
The lack of enthusiasm wasn’t because of the skincare, I like the Eye illuminate cream along with the Lemon Face Oil, but it has to get in line behind the trillion other face oils and potions I’ve received from Beauty Heroes. I love that they send full sizes every month (for $38 on the 3 month option) and this month’s eye cream apparently sells for $145 which makes it some sort of unbelievable deal. I’ve only used it a few times so I don’t know if it’s worth pawning off family heirlooms to re-purchase, but I do know that it’s on the thin side of the typically thicker consistency I’m drawn to when it comes to hydrating the oldest looking part of my entire body. The face oil was ok, I like the scent, but I like Keri Gran’s better (a BH pick from a few months back)- but when they’re both gone I’ll return to regular ol jojoba oil to loosen up eye and face makeup as a pre-cleanse which honestly works just as well for like $10 at Sprouts.
The main issue I have is that I can’t use it as quickly as it comes and it’s all too often a serum or moisturizer. There was a hair oil last month that I do like, but it smells like I spent the afternoon getting my palm read in an incense shop and patchouli is not my friend. A few months back they sent makeup (Modern Minerals) and you’d think they sent people clubbed baby seals in the mail the way their IG was filled with crazy messages about how these women didn’t wear makeup and the box was a complete waste of their life. I quietly celebrated trying out a glam mineral line that I wouldn’t otherwise try, but that was apparently a lonely, singular opinion.
I wanted to take a break from BH but I didn’t get a notice when my 3 months were up, so I think I’m on month 5 or maybe 8. Who knows. I hate when companies aren’t secure enough to just send a email saying hey- your time is up, keep going or nah? They weren’t shy about charging me for another 3 months which feels like I’m in a gypsy cult that I now have to make some sort of inconvenient call at exactly 10am to them to get out of.
I like you Beauty Heroes, but change up your offerings a little bit and let me decide if I’m ready to date a little bit longer, or just swipe left.
