Before Instagram you couldn’t pay me to try skincare that was made from some random person on Etsy which sounds totally sketchy and who knows who’s really making it or what’s in it. But I kept bumping into Leahlani Skincare over and again on IG with fans going nuts over her Mermaid Mask $22 (check out #MermaidMask and see!) and other Hawaiian inspired skincare. Her popular instagram overflows with thank you’s and fan photos of people using and loving her products. It started to feel like a weird sorority I really wanted to be in, but wasn’t invited, so I of course had to reach out to her and try the line for myself.
I ordered the mask knowing it was her flagship product and it would give me a clue about the rest of the line, but she generously included a Honey Love Microdermabrasion 3-in-1 Cleanser, Mask & Exfoliator $18, Coco Infusion ($22) oil in the Pura Lei scent, and a few little vials of her Champange $18 and Siren Serum ($22).
Because I couldn’t mask right away after opening up the mail at 3 in the afternoon, I tore into the Coco Infusion oil and rubbed it on my arms, in my hair, on my neck, and then on my girls when I ran out of available skin. Until you get to experience this scent for yourself, I’ll tell you this. She has managed to create a scent that reminds you of the most fun you’ve ever had, the hardest you’ve ever laughed, and the happiest you’ve ever been. It takes you back to that beach vacation where you danced all night by the ocean and never wanted the night to end. And if that never happened to you, it reminds you of the movie you watched where it did. It’s such a happy, tropical, unique scent that I felt inspired – there’s this whole world of products out there that I don’t know about and am now determined to find.
That night I used the scrub and mask. Her scrub is honey based with vitamins, flower powder, and corundum microdermabrasion crystals which is a version of what I’ve been making and using but on steroids with tons more skin benefits. It’s a purifying treatment that deep cleans pores without any irritation and really calms redness. I’ve used it nightly after cleansing and just love how soft my skin feels.
But the Mermaid Mask. It’s everything they say it is and more. Honey, spirulina, micro algae, sea buckthorn, green clay, and various essential oils make up this dense mask and just a quarter sized amount will do it. It’s a dark greenish shade that feels soothing and moisturizing- no stinging or burning and it comes off easily. If you have any sort of breakout happening, it will all come right to the surface so if you’re a fan of extractions, this will help you to purge it all. It really does create a glow and fresh looking skin, and because it’s so gentle you can use it as often as you’d like.
It’s a line that can’t help but to land itself onto retail shelves eventually if that’s the direction she wishes for it to go. You’ll say ‘I used it when it was sold on Etsy…’ This stuff is love in a jar whipped up by Leah, a holistic esthetician who once struggled with acne and found that using a holistic approach to skincare is the best way to feed and treat any sort of skin disruption. It feels like vitamins for my skin and in a week I can already see some improvement in texture and clarity. It’s a little hidden gem that I wanted to share knowing that you would love it too.
